NEW FCC ALLOTMENT FINDER TOOL AND INFO

this "tool" doesn't consider Channel 6, IF spacing, and many other possible problems .

Caveat Emptor even though it's free.

Only supposed to be for commercial channels, so channel 6 is not a factor.

The real joke is--you actually find a channel near something resembling a town--THEN you have to know how to petition to have the channel assigned (allotted),--plus pay a fee up front to have them do the assignment.

Once the Commission accepts that the town you've chosen has enough population to justify the allotment of that channel--and there are not some unknown factor their tool didn't catch, THEN you get to wait several years for the Commission to open a window and...

Surprise! After you've down all the spade work, you put more money down for the opportunity to try and outbid a bunch of speculators for the right to actually build a station.

That's the really sorry thing. If a person goes to all that trouble they should be given first preference for the channel. Instead the government gets to take as much money as they can for the channel for themselves. The FRC (FCC) was created to reduce or eliminate harmful interference. Instead it's turned into a combination of a policital agenda enforcer and profit center. Sad...

Actually TV6 IS an issue with stations on 98.5 (read the fine print in Part 73)...

Indeed it is. Two markets come to mind, Beaumont/Port Arthur and Tulsa, both of which have Class C stations on 98.5 and full-power TV's on channel 6. Things can get really messy in certain areas in both of those places, but of course that's going to change with the digital transition next year.
