The new "all news" FM station in Houston is NOT the first FM all news in the market. From 1975 to Feb. 25, 1977 102 was all news. It was part of the NBC 24 hour news and information service they started. In February the network folded and 3pm, Friday, February 25th 1977 "Majic 102" was born.

KFNC now using AccuWeather

But KFNC now is using Accuweather, which is a great step up from what they had previously, and what Cheap Channel runs on KTRH (Weather Channel). KTRH previously used Accuweather, but decided nationally to use the Weather Channel, which is at the point that KTRH's weather coverage declined. What I don't understand about Clear Channel is they announce they will use certain services (Fox News, Weather Channel) nationally on all their stations, yet Fox News isn't on KTRH (yet) and some of the affiliates still use services other than the Weather Channel (KLVI uses a local TV station's "weather" service - and its awful).
Edited by stan on 07/13/05 11:24 AM.

accuweather should help them weather wise now that is hurricane season, I remember when they were on ktrh and when ktrh dropped them I dropped ktrh as my weather station in ways it hurt ktrh image as the "weatherstation" for the houston area thanks in part to "cheap channel". the only time I listen to ktrh is when I'm out and about and the astros are playing.

> 1> Fox news is on KPRC Houstons place to Talk. i hear Fox News will soon replace CBS. I have heard the Fox 5 minute newscast at the top of the hour several times. They also run half past the hour update many hours of the day. The strange thing is Fox uses several sounders on the half past update? Accuweather is a good thing for KFNC The WeatherChannel is really too big for itself. I was listening to KPRC on a Saturday and surprize surprize a Weather Alert came on the air. I switched to KTRH and waited what seemed like a long time before they went on the air with it. I thought KPRC and KTRH were sister stations? The Weather Channel does the Weather Alerts on KPRC. That day they were right on top of it. I doubt KTRH will drop ABC News that could hurt them.
