New FM for Waynesboro

A new FM for Waynesboro at 100.7, does anyone know the owner or what they will do with it?

How will it impact WWON.

It won't really affect WWON 930.. the station seems to be doing OK and happy with how things are going.

100.7 is a George Flinn station so it'll be a computer at the transmitter site till he can lease it to someone.

RGB: I took a good hard look at WWON a few years back. I walked the square and talked to some merchants. Visited with the Chamber of Commerce. Had a delightful visit with the banker.

Now, over her in Georgia we still have some people who keep the Civil War alive in their minds, and they will tell you just how close they are to finally finishing up that battle and getting it right this time.

I can tell you that when I was testing the temperature in Waynesboro they were still raising some kind of flag of war over the FM they used to have which have moved on to serving Florence and Muscle Shoals. If I were operating WWON I would have some sleepless nights worrying about how many of my customers and listeners would be involved in mutiny and climbing aboard the new FM. Getting back "our FM" was the battle cry on the streets.

The guy who owns WWON 930 now has some low tier syndicated oldies show and this station is an outlet for that as WWON is now Big Oldies 930..

So WWON was AC/oldies then went to country and now to all oldies. All this in the last couple of years.
How can the local merchants know what's going on with them.

I agree with the above post about leasing the new FM. I don't think it will have much impact on WWON.

WWON kinda just exists.. I mean, it makes money and the owner wants it to make money.. but his goal is more just to simply have the format on the air.

The FM is going to go after a completely different audience...whoever lease sit from Flinn.

RadioGuy, You hit the nail on th head. Flinn Time Brokers all his stations outside of Memphis. And you are right about the computer at the transmitter site. The new WXRA-FM 99.3 Inglis-Ocala went on the air in the same manner you just described. They were progamming an obscure classic rock format called "The Pig" which is also available 24/7 online. WXRA, formerly WFBI, was finally timed brokered to Air 1 Radio Network and is now programming CCM music.

I'm not saying its the right format for Waynesboro, but their doing a nice job with it.

I think you have crafted a CLASSIC statement that could be used to describe a lot of radio today.

In following the conversations that take place here in the Radio Info boards, there are a lot of people who have a vision of what "a nice job of making radio" would sound like, and in addition to the vision, have the skills to do a nice job.

The frustration on the business side is that we may not have the vision to match up the correct 'nice job of doing it' with the market we are trying to serve and reach. And one of the challenges is this: society keeps changing. Many markets need a form, a format of radio that we haven't invented yet. Our skillsets do not include the vision to probe the unknown.
