New FM in Grass Valley on 91.9

A new FM has filed a license to cover on 91.9. The licensee is Weimar Institute in Weimar. This licensee previously has a LPFM (KWMI-LP). The transmitter is located on Banner Mtn NE of Grass Valley.

I feel like that some areas might have interference issues on 91.9 from KLVR if this station actually launches
It's on the air as of yesterday, running 1/2 power (directional antenna rules, until the license to cover is granted). Yup. That 91.9 signal on Mt. St. Helena booms into the foothills and causes significant interference. But I'm actually surprised as to how much better this one does compared to the incarnation built from the same site by Immaculate Heart Radio. That one was vertical-only, and this is circular.

It’s coming in strong for me near Roseville as well although it’s interfering with KLVR significantly

In case anyone is interested, KWUN is up to full power now. Some spot-checks reveal that the interference areas are about the same from what I can tell, but I also see changes in interference day-to-day. Sometimes KLVR is very strong and sometimes it's almost non-existent. Never knew that propagation across the central valley would vary by that much. There's also a new station licensed to Penn Valley on 88.5. It suffers the same fate as KWUN only much worse, thanks to KQED's 115KW from Mt. San Bruno.

As I have said many times. Just because it clears on paper does not mean it is going to work in the real world. Come to Southern California and see the interference to stations in LA and Santa Barbara from San Diego. Some LPFM stations get wiped out a few blocks from their transmitter sites.

Just for grins I looked up the application. Yup - it does clear. But wow...
