But if KFNC gets unplugged, who will all you bitter haters bully up on then? I figure we'll all have to go back to hating CC in their blatant illegal operations of a broadcasting monopoly... from sea to shining sea.[/quote]Bitter or hate KFNC is a little strong. KFNC is a big disappointment from what could have been an excellent News Station for Houston. KFNC has some very talented people on staff.Problem one was the moniker of "FM News Channel" and they carry very little news. People tuned in for news and almost always found Talk programming. Killed their credibility to a large degree right there.Problem two was that the news is presented as a "laughfest" and every story was a laugh a minute. Impossible to take a station like that seriously. Whoever came up with that idea is an idoit. People listen to a News station for hard news stories, not a take off of SNL. Killed their news reporting credibility to hell.I realize that All News is an expensive operation, but KFNC would have had a fighting chance at being a player in Houston radio if they had been All News from 5am to 8pm and Talk Shows from 8pm to 5am, seven days a week. The station never came close to the potential that was there. Call it extreme disappointment. As for hating Cumulus, too strong, but disappointed in what they have accomplished with KFNC or KIOL. KIOL is still unstaffed half the time, the music that Rock 1037 plays is not what most people in Houston want. From what I have come to understand is that a station with a harder rock edge to it is more in line with what is desired. If the station went to a harder rock format the ratings would likely increase.I have been listening to a station WEDG from Buffalo which is hard rock, but not the headbanger screeching rock, just good rock with a harder rock sound than KIOL. KIOL could do well to listen to WEDG and take some tips for a better station. There is no excuse for Rock 1037 not to be fully staffed 24/7 after all this time. A sign of we don't give a damn or pure cheap, either which doesn't make for a good station, regardless of format. KIOL has some excellent Air Talent in Wendy Miller, Outlaw Dave, Pam Kelly and Lisa Kendall. I listen to Walton & Johnson, but by this time I have grown tired of their attitude and while talented not nearly as good as they think they are. There isn't much in the morning to tune to though. As for Clear Channel bashing, I believe that CC is getting their act together in Houston and they are not doing so much on the cheap as even six months ago. They have some very good stations in Houston. The Houston area does have some very good stations. Unfortunately they are few and far between compared to ten or fifteen years ago, but there is some good radio left in Houston.88.7 KUHF - Good mix of Classical and NPR/PRI News. When they go to HD Radio and have all Classical and All News on separate channels the station will be much better for those that have an HD Radio.89.3 KSBJ - One of the best, if not the best, Contemporary Christian Music stations in the country.89.7 KACC - A great Rock station, even if a little rough around the edges at times. Plays an excellent variety of music.90.1 KPFT - A good addition to the area stations with a very wide variety of programming.90.5 KJIC - A well run and good sounding Southern/Country Gospel station that keeps the preaching to the minimum.90.9 KTSU - A great Jazz station. Fridays are fantastic with the old Motown, R&B, Blues and Soul music. Sundays are devoted to Urban/Black Gospel music.91.3 KPVU - see KTSU only with NPR and from Prairie View A&M.91.9 KTRU - Good College Alternative station with BBC news all night.95.7 KHJZ - A well run Smooth Jazz station as is CBS Radio's other Houston FM KILT 100.97.1 KTHT - Some excellent traditional Country music, but run by Cox who never bothered to have more than a morning show. The station is a disappointment since it could have been a great power in the Country music field, but the station has never been finished. You still think that you have tuned into a new station just getting going. Another opportunity a company had to make it big with a station and they blew it big time. It is a miracle that Country Legends gets the ratings that they do get.99.1 KODA - The "Family Friendly Station" that has updated their music and is a fairly good AC station.99.7 KVST - A very good Country station that mixes Contemporary and Traditional Country, too bad the signal doesn't make it into Houston any more.100.3 KILT - A well run Contemporary Country station that has had a long run and will continue to be the leader in Country music in Houston. CBS does a very good job of running their stations. Would love to see them buy out Cox who is just wasting good frequencies for the most part.102.1 KMJQ - Radio Ones' excellent Adult Contemporary Urban station.104.1 KRBE - One of America's great Top 40 stations. Will probably be history in short time now that Cumulus is running the station. Cumulus seems to have a knack for having great Air Talent and screwing up the station with the decisions that are made in Atlanta.107.5 KLDE - A good Pop Rock oldies station that is surprisingly from Cox.980 KRTX - One of the few remaining Tejano stations and a good sounding station.1360 KWWJ - A pretty good Urban Gospel station, biggest problem is the signal disappears from most of the Houston metro at sunset.1390 KULP - A good mixture of music and small town charm from El Campo.1430 KCOH - Black Talk-News-Sports daytime and great oldtime soul, blues, R&B nights.1590 KMIC - Not local, but Radio Disney is a good Top 40 station. Not all is doom and gloom and hate.
