New FM station

Billboards around town are proclaiming the arrival of KFLT-FM on 88.5. It simulcasts with the 50,000 watt AM station on 830 and probably covers no area that 830 misses. Transmitter appears to be on the KFMA tower near the Pima County Fairgrounds. If this channel has been available, how come nobody got it until now? Should have been occupied many years ago. Hard to imagine a bigger waste of radio spectrum. Hardly anyone listens to that stuff.

I've seen a Billboard on Oracle with Lute Olsen saying something like, "Safe for the whole family"

You ARE kidding about the "Hardly anyone listens to that stuff" quote, right? If that is what you believe you must really live in a cave.
