New FM tower?

Noticed while on my way to Indy that there was a tower just passed the 55 mile marker on the south side of I-70. Looks to have 4 bays and maybe 300 feet tall.. Anyone know who this is?

I think that is the old K-love tower.
Not sure though.

I think that is the new tower for WQRA-Greencastle (EMF) They have a cp for that location with 8kw. Their old tower is north of there with a funky directional signal

I was wondering the same thing, but my first guess was also WQRA.

As the guy who'll be taking care of it, yep, it's the new WQRA tower. It will be directional, but not nearly as directional as the current site. It will also have H & V polarity.

I was by there on Oct 17th...the last 2 bays were being hoisted that day. Building was in place but no equipment had arrived. Electricians were wiring the building that day. It rained the next day or two so that slowed things down. Will probably know more this week.

Hey Bob, you should stop by the next time you're near Terre Haute. It's been forever since I have seen you!

Ken

With as many sticks as Bob takes care of,I am surprised he gets by his house once a month.

I keep hoping K-Love will buy something in Terre Haute...if that happens, you'll see a lot more of me in Vigo County.

Bob is ALWAYS on the job!

The new WQRA site went on at 1:30AM...I believe it's at half power. Signal reports appreciated.

Can hear it on Terre Haute's East side in my car.
Thanks Milo! That's encouraging! BTW, it is at full power.

Bob.....

It sure sounds stronger than the past up in the fringe, north and east off 465 on my old Chevy radio (Pre-Gov't. Made GM)...

I enjoyed reasonable service from 90.5 WQRA from Avon all the way over to Fishers, Noblesville, etc. on a few recent trips to the Indy area. I now end up flipping between WQRA & WHZN "Shine FM" - seems as if Shine's 88.3 signal is very directional; I couldn't get it reliably on the west/northwest of Indy, and it fades in and out in northeast area.

What is "Shine FM"? I listen to K-Love for CCM.

I believe that's 88.3 transmitting from Trafalagar with a fairly directional antenna aimed at Indianapolis, Vertical Only. It recently changed ownership and I'm unsure if Shine FM is the new name or the old one. Thanks for listening to Positive Encouraging K-Love.

I was listening to WQRA at Knightstown a few days ago. Most of the time the signal was very listenable on US 40 headed West.

Shine FM is the Christian CHR network from Olivet Nazarene University. They chose Indianapolis for their first non-Chicagoland station, and the morning show for the entire network is also being hosted in Indianapolis by Kurt Wallace. They are found online at www.shine.fm . Shine FM is not a full affiliate of WAY FM, but does carry some of its programming elements, such as "The Word On The Way." They also produce side channels Shine Worship, heard online, on a translator in Crown Point, and on HD Radio, and Shine Rock, heard online and on HD Radio.

Back to K-Love, we get generally good reception here in Kokomo from the 101.7 Elwood station, and honestly, I can stay on 101.7 all the way down into Hamilton County before I switch over to 101.9.
