NEW Fond du lac, WI company buys in SD!

New Radio Company Buys South Dakota ClusterABERDEEN RADIO RANCH is selling six stations in ABERDEEN, SD to the new ARMADA MEDIA, according to the ABERDEEN AMERICAN NEWS. ARMADA is based in FOND DU LAC, WI and headed by Chairman (and former WISCONSIN Governor and Secretary of Health and Human Services) TOMMY THOMPSON, COO CHRIS BERNIER, and Managing Directors JIM COURSOLLE, SAN DIEGO station operator JOHN LYNCH, attorney JOHN LARSON, and former station group owner TERRY SHOCKLEY. ARMADA will get Talk KSDN-A, Classic Rock KSDN-F, Hot AC KBFO (THE POINT), Oldies KNBZ (KOOL 97.7), Sports KGIM-A (ESPN 1420), and Country KGIM-F (PHEASANT COUNTRY 103.7)/ABERDEEN for a reported $9.25 million. Thompson (known as "taxing Tommy" to his former subjects in the tax and spend state), Bernier (who owns a bunch of stations in Fondy and was one of the "B"s in the old BBK Broadcasting, and Shockley and Lynch are a strange mix. You gotta wonder how these guys all got together. On the UP side, the stations should be very "secure" with Thompson on board...

Re: Armada Media - Armadillo Broadcasting - whatever!

Just remember folks, there are a bunch ofsmall Class A FM's in the State of Wisconsinthat nobody wants to buy at a premium.Heck, there's even a North Wisconsin groupfather-son deal that wants to sell their chain...Start a merger from LaCrosse to Marinette-Menominee, these guys could pick up steam.Or, could it just be a bunch of guys with a lotof money, that want to 'play' in the sandbox again? Only time will tell.P.S. The Governor has been making a lot ofmoney since leaving Washington, doing speechesand sitting on boards, etc, so he has to put hismoney somewhere.... we'll know in a couple ofdays how much everyone put up... when theAberdeen Radio Ranch application is made public!I'm thinking, these guys are just getting started!Other than Starboard and Air America, are thereany other people actively looking for stations? Nah!They could surprise everybody if at the end of 12months, they've got a full network.... based in Wisconsin...
