New format coming to My 102.5

Bill mcmartin has contacted a former My morning show. He said that new format was a big mistake and that Zack and Marnie are terrible.

Quite interesting if true. Wonder what they'll change to. I'd love another, maybe more adult-leaning CHR to compete against B93.7.

While I know Hot AC doesn't do well in the South, I still think they may have done better with it if they hadn't made so many mistakes along the way -- mostly not doing a "true" flip and dragging out '80s ballads, etc., that seemed to try to keep some of their old listeners but made for an overall sloppy mix. Going Christmas. Poor talent decisions. And even when they started to get their act together (their playlist at least pretty close to Hot AC now), it was too late IMO.

Wish Cox owned it so they could move X98.5 to it :)

I know oldies is a format missing from the area, but I'm not sure the need is big enough to warrrant 102.5's power.

^^ If they are just contacting "talent" now, any flip could still be months away. My fear, again since this is all hearsay, is if they are contacting a former on-air personality is that they may be looking to go back to straight AC, which would be a huge mistake IMO. Magic isn't even peforming much better as a technically unopposed AC station. MY would do no better if they went back in that direction -- and since they appear to have lost listeners during the last flip, doubt there would be many that would bother to come back.

While I agree with both of the comments in the first post, and all of the points made here, I don't think any of the former airstaff of this station is available for hire anymore.

The numbers for this station are bad. I don't have many doubts it'll be gone by the end of the year and I don't think it will be AC again. That format did not do well either and there is not enough room for 2 AC's in this market. I listened to them the other day and they were playing the exact same "fresh" currents they were playing after Christmas. That's not the way this format is supposed to work. It's really no wonder they aren't doing well.

Might have had way more potential if it had been run by people that knew what they were doing.

I actually noticed that too, but not sure what motive he'd have to come here to post it unless he himself has some "sour grapes" towards MY. But then he mentions this "personality" having a grudge against Magic, so who knows?

I agree, though, that making his first post on the forum be something somewhat big as far as a rumor, is suspicious.

(Still wouldn't be surprised if MY did flip, though, based on their performance of late)

If they do flip it would be cool to have a format like Radio1045 in Philly. With the signal MY has it would be a good fit for all the college kids around the upstate and Western Carolina's as well as some of the older money demo's that listen... JMO and I know it sounds CRAZEE.

sounds like the poster has bad feelings toward cc new screen names are always good for slinging mud and starting rumors

I'd LOVE that, but don't know if they'd do it just because of the emergence of X98.5. Radio 104.5 is much more loose and independent in its playlist, which is great, but there still would be a good amount of overlap with X98.5 as alternative formats go.

Urban is #1 in this market almost consistently. I could see an Urban format to knock Jamz out of the top 3 and make WSSL the consistent #1 and 92.5 right behind it or top 3. It wouldn't be that hard. I don't see this station sticking around long-term.

Even though opinions may have varied slightly, we all agree that MY's current format is a complete flop! The discussion has been deep, and even if they: the owners, the suits, the management thereof...have arrived at the screamin' truth, what makes any of us believe that they...now know...what in the Flyin' Fudgecake to do??????????????? Let us not soon ferrrrr-get that...
...they also sucked, before the flip!

Sheeeesh!...We need another Urban like we need a set of warts between our toes! Stop falling for the weighed Arb mess, and realize that WSSL "is" consistently the #1. You want more Rap Crap such as 98.1? Do us all a favor, and take the flu shot...ask for a second one.
The two Countrys will always have the Lion's share, until the one CHR, and the two AC's learn how to get it right!

It doesn't matter. Yes, you look at the stats and Urban is "technically" the #1 station here, but if there was just one country station here it would EASILY be the #1 station here. And no CHR, AC, Urban, Rock, Alternative, Talk, Oldies or anything will likely ever change that....no matter how good the station is. Country is king in these parts and, IMO, always will be....regardless of what the crows at WJMZ would say. The market may get more segmented depending on whatever format MY or any other station is. But I firmly believe there will always be more listeners for Country stations (combined) than any other format. There would have to be some massive fallout in the country format for that to ever change.

Exactly! ^ This market is 18% African American. No wonder Jamz is #1. That demographic has one station targeted at it - of course it'll be #1 overall. They own the audience. Markets in the South typically have an Urban at the top. Large demographic with just one outlet = first place.

I'm not a fan of most of the stuff they play, either, but their success is perfectly understandable.
