New format for Roanoke

> So what does everyone think about The Bull's (WZBL) new classic country format?

It's a far cry from the JACK-FM that CC was saying was going to happen! The big question is, will it last???

At least they're thinking now...Classic country has really been missing around there for awhile. Star Country plays a little, which will help out 'YYD. This is a much better format than being the #3 country station.

I wonder...will Roanoke/Lynchburg get JACKED?

Could still happen...

Opie Joe,

I don't think it was CC that was saying that a "Jack" was coming, It was you!

Love the way you spread rumors about your own company and cluster!

Not to meddle in other's business (which I love doing), but I think everybody's favorite rumor mill, All Access also reported that the Bull would go something to the tune of Jack.

Anyhow, the playlist is pretty broad...*that* part was correct!

Hey Chris! Why don't you give a shout out to some of your peeps that still work at CC--because I PROMISE you, Opie didn't start the rumor--the PROGRAM DIRECTOR did---perhaps you know him?? You have the largest chip on your shoulder that I have ever seen in radio. You REALLY have to get over that. Everyone at WYYD is brand new as of 2 years ago, and they didn't do a THING to you. The station is doing GREAT. WZBL has potential now that they've got it running Classic Country. If you're pissed off that Clear Channel FIRED you, FINE! Be mad! Clear Channel fires people that aren't getting the job done, or they have a negative attitude. I heard that you were somewhere in the middle. That's not a bash against you--because the proof is right there in black in white. And truth be told, Chris, WZBL almost DID go to "Jack." There were several formats being tossed around. You don't work for Clear Channel Roanoke/Lynchburg anymore, so you don't know they full story, do you? I suggest taking a step back and looking at the big picture before you decide to run your mouth.

Lill Miss

For your information, I do still know quite a few people in the building over there and have meet the co host of the morning show, did not get to meet her partner but here nothing but great things about him. Meet Morgan the mid day girl, very nice person. Still speak to Scott Walker, Stay in touch with Dave Carwile, Talk football with Steve Cross all fall long, so yes I do still know a few people in the building, even still know a few in the roanoke office as well. I do not know joel, the new pd that took over after I left, I had the honor of meeting him once at Cattle Annies but thats all I know about him. So no I don't really know joel. In my opion, Im not sure the Classic Country will work again in Roanoke. It was done on 93.5/WJLM back in 2002 or 2003 with Slam Duncan as Program Director and morning guy and it just didn't work. The last time the Legends worked was when WJLM was a stand alone before SLC went country. The legends have a short shelf life and they do not make an impact in the numbers. Take a look at the numbers of legends based country station. Show me one that has made any impact with a smaller stick against two players in the market. Dont think you will find one. I couldn't. As far as Clear Channel firing me, Thats just not so, Ive been doing this way too long to know when its time to go and thats just what I did. i was not fired, I still have the letter that I wrote to Chris Clendenen, the market mgr at the time if you would like to see it. But if it makes you feel good to think I got fired, thats fine, I've been fired before and if i stay in this as a program director, it will happen again, and it will to you also. So if sayig that I got fired does something for you, Please have at it. Unless LIl Miss is the program dir or the Gm of the station, I don't know how you would be in the loop as to whats going on. You don't work for Clear Channel Roanoke/Lynchburg either. So I'm sure you have no clue, much less a clue as to whats going on with CC roanoke/Lynchburg. So as far as I can see you only know whats happening with The cluster because Opie is the one telling you what you need to know.

Who says I don't work for CC Roanoke?? I don't think I ever said that. And besides, even if I didn't, as you know, radio is a small world, and people talk. You don't know who I know, and I don't know who you know. But people talk to their friends. Don't underestimate anyone. Opie hasn't told me anything about you. I just heard you were slinking around the boards talking trash and thought I'd stop by and see for myself. I can always use a good laugh. As for what you really think think about Joel Dearing. Was it an honor?? I know and you know you've told people outside of this board, something quite different. As someone that seems to want to stay in this business as a Program Director, Chris, allow me to hand out a piece of advice: Careful who you talk to...it's puts your credibility at risk.
