New Format for XEPE-AM 1700 Tijuana?

Going around the AM dial tonight here in Phoenix, AZ and I stumbled upon XEPE-AM at the end of the dial playing some English oldies. I heard “Venus” by Frankie Avalon, a forgotten oldie from 1959, then it was followed by “Video Killed the Radio Star” from 1979 by the Buggles and then another “oldie” from the 1970’s. It was definitely XEPE-AM because between songs there was a Spanish language bumper. Last I heard, XEPE was airing Spanish Language news radio. Has that changed?

No. I just tuned in, and XEPE is still Spanish Talk. But I have heard them occasionally play English-oldies.

Nope, just off-hours music, and confirmed to be the same as the El Heraldo Radio web stream.

MVS also does this with its Mexico City news/talk station, with a more AC-esque format.

Also consider that XEPE is two hours behind its parent station time zone-wise. A quick check of the El Heraldo Radio site shows that they apparently don't have any talk programs between 11pm and 6am CT.

The station has been running spanish news talk by day and oldies at night for about a year now

I've heard it on MVS' 1120 XEMX Mexicali. Heard that a few times here in Wyoming squeezing its way in over KMOX
