New Format in Montgomery - KOOL 957!

Their web site is awesome indeed.

I'll have me another radio station to check out, when visiting the Gump.

This one might impress me.

Hope it does, when I get a chance to listen.

No more Urban AC format for what was WAPZ. Will the nationally popular Michael Baisden Show find a new radio home in Montgomery?

I'm very impressed. The audio even on the translator is far better than the bomp bomp bomp you can't rid on Q 96.1

I have a new preset - 95.7 FM

Wonder now if Bluewater would consider returning the recently removed oldies format of 1170 (104.9) back to 96.1 - or (far less likely) switching the Gump to 96.1 and putting the oldies back on 1170. I can't see WQKS not at least tweaking their format (more late 80s and some early 90s hint hint) because their daytime personalities rock and I don't wanna see them depart.

I also noticed on the new website they are listing their call letters as "WRBZ" (obviously AM 1250).

Waiting on the top of the hour legal ID to confirm.

Just what the market needs - more Bee Gees and Steve Miller! How derivative. Maybe BW should go Urban Oldies and combo with 97 JAMZ.

You should know Rick, thats all you play.

Rick Peters: Wordsmith.

"Just what the market needs - more Bee Gees and Steve Miller! How derivative. "

FYI Rick, per http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/derivative

1: a word formed by derivation
2: something derived
3: the limit of the ratio of the change in a function to the corresponding change in its independent variable as the latter change approaches zero
4a : a chemical substance related structurally to another substance and theoretically derivable from it b : a substance that can be made from another substance
5: a contract or security that derives its value from that of an underlying asset (as another security) or from the value of a rate (as of interest or currency exchange) or index of asset value (as a stock index)

What an exciting new concept! Another pieced together "hip" station with satellite personalities-wow. Here's an idea that might be better. Look just a little bit to the north, and bring in a hip style from a local programmer/host that has successfully designed a format to make classic new again, with a limited signal. The end result could be a profit, and a following. That my friends, is a novel idea.

Not a bad move to call the station 'Kool' (as in Dial Global's Kool Gold), considering 104.3 was 'Cool' for a good while.

I was in Montgomery and heard the new KOOL 95.7 and 1250AM Classic Hits..The audio on 95.7 was very good, AND the audio on the AM 1250 wa the best sounding in the area. I
hope the new station does well by bringing classic hits back to Montgomery. It fills a programming hole in the market.

I got this one sflaboy.

Dude, the Montgomery area has several other stations that carries this format. (Both Local and Rimshots) (As a regular format and/or Mixing those songs in with the currents.)

Q 96.1 FM Montgomery (All Classics all the time)
1130 AM Tallassee (All Classics all the time)
950 AM Montgomery (Classics and Oldies Music)
95.1 FM The Fox Montgomery (Classic Rock mixed in with the Currents)
ALEX FM 100.9 Selma (All Classics all the time)
and of course MIX 103.3 FM Montgomery (They carefully mix in the Classics with the Current Soft Rock Hits)

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Although I like the presentation on here, I hope this station won't be an overkill.  Too much of one format tends to do this.  Hope this one won't fall into that trap and be forced to change to something else within a matter of time.

Well, since 95.7 Kool Classic's is indy radio and can eeek by on what they sale, lets break it down and see who can fail the fastest. The board seems to agree that they have a fresh format and great signal.

Q96.1: This is a big ole cash cow according to The Flordia Boy, so I have no doubt they will take a hit.
1130 AM: Ok AM, cya after 5 pm.
950 AM: Dittos. Plus its a cumulus cluster and they seem happy on where it is.
95.1 The Fox: I dont see them in this equation. They are the only rocker in Montgomery.
100.9 Selma: Are you serious? Whos gonna buy that other than west alabama business.
Mix 103: Seems like they are AC and well established.

SO if I had to guess, the only river region station on the hot plate, is, you guessed it. The Flordia Boy at 96.1. So are you gonna stop playing everything and figure out a content?

I'm not going to respond to your post.

...BUT I'LL SAY THIS IN CLOSING, ALEX FM IS A LEGEND IN THE RADIO BUSINESS. THEY'VE BEEN VERY ESTABLISHED FOR YEARS NOW.

EVEN WHEN THEY DID TOP 40, THIS STATION WAS MILES AHEAD OF EVERYONE ELSE.

BESIDES THAT, THIS STATION HAS BEEN DOING SOME SPOTS FOR BUSINESSES IN THE GUMP AREA, SINCE THEY UPGRADED TO 50,000 WATTS BACK IN 1988.

YEESCH! GROW UP AND GET A SPINE.

I'LL DEFEND ALEX FM , WMRK TALK AND Q 96.1 FM TILL THEY CEASE FROM EXISTING. EVEN IF THEY DO CHANGE THEIR FORMAT, I'LL DEFEND THEIR RIGHT TO DO IT AND TAKE UP FOR THE PRESENTATION. I LOVE THOSE THREE STATIONS AND LIKE THE WAY THEY DELIVER THEMSELVES.

SORRY FOR THE CAPITAL LETTERS BUT I HAD TO GET THAT OFF MY CHEST.

Now l can move on and be happy again.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Still love your presentation of programming Mr. slfalboy, WMRK Talk Radio and ALEX FM. It's awesome indeed. ;)
