New Format On WWWN-FM To Debut This Afternoon

www.1011fmnews.com is linking from GoDaddy to an 'underconstruction page'.

As is the presumed site for WEMP http://www.1019fmnews.com , and both were registered through Go Daddy as the exact same time; so they were bought by the same entity, added to the basket, and paid for. They domain name's owner is private as their were registered through the 'names by proxy service.'

By launching today, WWWN-FM has gotten a jump on the WBBM simulcast which begins Monday. Has anyone heard WWWN yet? :)

I'm waiting for a livestream. Not hear anything yet.

Does anyone want to set up a stream for us outside of Chicago? Something free like Ustream? All you need is a radio, a cable and a computer.

Good idea, I'm looking forward to see the URL here.

What I heard earlier was a train wreck, but it was the first hour of the first day.

So, question from an out of town curious person. Is the 101.1 airing all news all the time? Female talk? Talk and music?

Someone please elaberate on the programming, since there's no stream. Please be spicific.

I have only been able to listen for very short periods. What I've heard has been mostly news and some attempt at humorous talk, sometimes with soft music in the background. Again, I've only listened a very little bit. Hopefully someone else can be more specific.

What a joke from such seasoned vets!

Wow - it hurts to listen to that!

Radio has become so automated with most jocks/announcers having such limited roles, that I can see how it would be very hard to find people who can put together this kind of of dynamic programming that requires actually making decisions while on the air, having the ability to ad-lib and to be able to push the right buttons at the right moment. Even back in the days when even rock stations had two or more people in the news department, it was hard to find people who could do more than read wire service stories during newscasts at the top and bottom of the hours. I remember when an big earthquake hit here in southern California and on more than one station I heard normally competent news people falling apart trying to keep up with fast-breaking news. In today's world where radio "news" mean three headlines read by the traffic reporter, it has to be even harder to find people with the skill sets needed to do this properly. And since Randy Michaels is the one who brought us Cheap Channel and made the Tribune his frat party house, I don't imagine the planning for this new station even matched the planning for the executive bash to celebrate the new station :)

But really, it was painful to listen to that one posted audio clip. When you make that kind of debut in a place like Chicago it's a sad, sad commentary on the status of radio. Presumably they'll improve, but any company that let it start like that is not positioned for success.

OK. So it's now the weekend. Is 101.1 doing the music on weekends thing?
