New Format ?

I’m hearing that 104.5 is no longer La Caliente and now goes by LA MEJOR. I also heard that the Pd left a few weeks ago. Hard to lease with no HD .

Just checked, and KJFI 102.5 and K283CH 104.5 are now simulcasting La Mejor, which had previously only been on several transmitters on 102.5. They are now branding with the 104.5 frequency. Guess we’ll see if something different pops up on 102.5.

Went to the Platinomax website, and there is still a stream for La Caliente.

Edit to add: The La Caliente stream liners included “105.3” but I would have no idea where this comes from. Power still on 105.3 OTA.

KJHJ is currently off the air although they have never been consistently on the air

Seems like the change is final . Out of curiosity lets say this translator was legal and leasing a HD in Houston can run you 6-8k what would you guess it would cost to Lease 104.5 or a 105.3 in Houston both with very similar coverage? Anyone willing to guess?

At least more than $5

Noticed La Mejor is branding as La Mejor Digital on their official Facebook page.
Just to clarify, there seems to be two different "La Mejor" stations here with no relation to each other. The one you're talking about is the Platino Max station that is affiliated with Mexico's MVS Radio and was on 102.5. It seems like the Platino Max stations have been booted off of their frequencies and are internet-only stations at the moment (which is why both La Caliente 104.5, MVS La Mejor 102.5, and La Voz 880 are now identifying as "Digital". The new "La Mejor" displaced La Caliente and MVS La Mejor on both the 104.5 and 102.5 frequencies and doesn't seem to have any relationship with Platino Max.

If that was hard enough to follow, it seems like the "La Mejor 104.5" that is on now on may be using the same imaging/liners as the "La Mejor 104.5" that was on back in 2017. Can anyone confirm? My memory may be a bit off. Mrtejano, you seem to be one of the few who has kept up with the numerous changes for the translators. Can you confirm if the liners are the same as they were in 2017?

That explains why I was hearing different music on the stream versus OTA.

I’ve been hearing some of the same liners as the previous incarnation on 104.5, particularly “Mas musica, menos guiri guiri.”

Making sense out of nothing at all.

I can confirm this is the old LA MEJOR that used to be on KTBZ HD2 or HD3 back in 2017. But right now it lost signal in between a song. Even the RDS is gone.

Once I heard an LPFM changing from stereo to mono transmitter in between songs during the gaps, then back to stereo when music kicked back on again.
It wasn't my radio, it was the transmitter, and the next day onward it broadcast mono audio with stereo transmitter all the time. I liked the auto-switching LOL.

A station can switch between mono and stereo with the same transmitter. This is sometimes done with stations that carry play by play sports which go to mono during the games.

KSTX did mono on weekdays but stereo on weekends during music and live programming when I heard it last.
