New Formats That Haven't Been Tried

I see that the SF Bay Area radio scene is remiss in not providing us listeners with any of these formats:

Alternative Urban Progressive Hits
Adult Active Contemporary
Alternative Alternative Alternative
Modern New Classics
Smooth Soft Active
Hit Progressive Hits
Modern New Hits
Classic Light Classics
Rhythmic Smooth Soft
Active New Contemporary
Adult Rhythmic Progressive
Active Classic Hits
Urban New Contemporary
Smooth Alternative Contemporary
Progressive Active Alternative
Urban Progressive Hits
Hit Classic Urban
Hot Active Alternative
Progressive Smooth Classics
Active Adult Progressive
Light Classic Alternative
Hot Modern Modern
Urban Smooth Modern
Modern Urban Smooth
or even Modern Urban Smooth

Actually, these format names were generated by version 1.0 of my radio format naming software. I figure that if we're going to be throwing meaningless words around, we may as well have a machine to create them faster than we can use them. That way we can stay ahead of the game.

Okay, meanwhile back to our discussion of how Smooth Jazz can never be jazz as along as Kenny G is in the house....

Wait you forgot Adult Urban Old School No Clue....oh sorry that's Movin'

Never Mind

Ahhh....an all Jason Webley channel! I like. http://www.jasonwebley.com/

Actually, I really did write a little program that takes all the worn out format words and puts 3 or 4 of them together to create all-new worn out format names. My point is that there is precious little going on in new format ideas. A music director takes a few songs out of rotation, puts a few more in and slaps a new name on it. It's no wonder people are bolting from radio listening.

People here are going on and on about rearranging deck chairs you know where....

That's all it is. Shuffling in and out bits & pieces of old formats.

* Deep sea fishing talk fused with Rock-a-billy hoedown music
* NASCAR highlights mixed with Square dancing music
* FM Talk Station.....uh...scratch that one
* Automatic Transmission talk with All night Traffic, no weather

Certain kinds of alt-country can certainly be called "Cowpunk Thrashbilly". (Beat Farmers, CCR, Lonesome Strangers, Jason & the Scorchers). There's one fer y'all.

The Beat Farmers! Oh, how I miss them and front man Country Dick Montana. Saw them at Slim's about a year before the tragedy.

I think certain tracks by Leftover Salmon qualify as Cowpunk Thrashbilly too.
