What's the one format you'd like to see in Nashville? Why? What station?
Nashville already has southern gospel on "Solid Gospel 105"Now if you're talking about "black gospel" then it ain't gonna work in Nashville. Not enough black population.Sorry, no "slam dunk" there.OldiesCat1 said:Southern Gospel (like is being done in B'ham, Memphis, Atlanta)- slam dunk.
But it wouldn't necessarily lose money, depending upon how it's programmed. Jazzy 101 never LOST money, it just didn't make as much money as the company wanted to make. The switch to Contemporary Christian was seen as a potential moneymaker, but it didn't make appreciably more than Jazzy. Obviously, the change to The Beat has made CC a dollar or ten.mattthepm said:The return of an EZ/Beautiful Instrumentals format, ala EZ 93.(but no, that won't make any money and it's not a 'cookie cutter' format. . .darn it!)![]()
Last time I checked, that's what "southern gospel" is.OldiesCat1 said:it's white-bread gospel with a crappy signal.
As would I. It would be nice to have an all-news station with a reporter covering state government, another covering City Hall, etc. And there are plenty of talented newspeople in town who could make it work.CDG said:I would like to see an all news station for Nashville.
But could it draw enough advertisers to pay the salaries of several reporters, anchors, news writers, editors, and producers?TheEvangelistofNews said:It would be nice to have an all-news station with a reporter covering state government, another covering City Hall, etc. And there are plenty of talented newspeople in town who could make it work.
Maybe .. if partnered with a local TV station so reporters could be sharedjetfli said:But could it draw enough advertisers to pay the salaries of several reporters, anchors, news writers, editors, and producers?
A "shared" arrangement could work if it's done properly, meaning the TV station would not necessarily be the dominant partner in the arrangement. If the right people are in charge of it, an all-news format could be very successful and profitable in Nashville. It has been done in a few smaller markets. One problem would be audience perception. Far too many people in this area tend to think of the talk stations as "all-news" when they are anything but.jetfli said:But could it draw enough advertisers to pay the salaries of several reporters, anchors, news writers, editors, and producers?TheEvangelistofNews said:It would be nice to have an all-news station with a reporter covering state government, another covering City Hall, etc. And there are plenty of talented newspeople in town who could make it work.
