New GM for CBS Radio in Pittsburgh

Per R & R,Jim Meltzer will be the new VP/GM for Pittsburgh CBS Radio Stations on May 22, which include K ROCK, Star and Y 108.

Meltzer is an ex-Jacor and Clear Channel guy who was canned by CC late last year. He was last in charge of Clear Channel's Cleveland operations, where he was since 1998. He was in Cincinnati and Chicago, if memory serves, before that. He's a good VP/GM type, but buys into the corporate radio mentality--sales is king and maximize the money money money. He is, no doubt, a Randy Michaels disciple (he was with him for many years). He's a nice guy, though, and a good worker. CC's treatment of him was poor, after being in one of their best performing clsuters for many years. I assume the Michaels connection had something to do with it.

if you know anything about randy.......he believes in content.....so as a former Randy Michaels staffer i would guess that mr. meltzer will spend time on the content....as that is the way, in a market like p burgh, to make the ratings which will make the sales....

It's gonna take a heck of a lot for the GM to save K ROCK. I know you like the station but face it, it's dying fast.
We'll see what happens.

"So i hope he can save k-rock"You do realize that whatever is done to save K-Rock, it will mean changing it into something that doesn't get bad ratings, right? That means that most of what you seem to like about K-Rock will be gotten rid of, and replaced with things you don't like. You say you don't like WDVE, yet WDVE is on the top of the ratings. It's probably a safe bet that anything that "saves" K-Rock will mean making it more like WDVE.

Very well put Radio Realist. DVE knows how to keep their station on top. As someone else pointed out before, DVE fans have always been loyal. I don't think any other rock station in Pittsburgh would be able to give DVE a run for their money. But hey, that's just my opinion.

To the fan of KRock: have you had any experience managing a radio station or have you been a part of one? I really wonder sometimes if you are sittingin a middle school computer lab typing your posts. Read what other people are saying on these boards in regards to the management... or lack there of,of this station and consider that before posting. It will give you much more credibility and help you become a much better contributer to Radio Info. I'm not always on target with my posts, however I do my best to ask questions and respond to questions based on what's presented in front of me. Goodluck!

"Evidently, then, the way to save K-Rock is to convince them to quit playing Metallica."No, the way to accomplish anything is to take any off-the-wall comment anyone makes as part of a larger discussion, then keep throwing that one statement back as if that's the only thing the person you're referring to has ever said.
