New GMAZ Lineup

Lots of changes for 3TV's Good Morning Arizona.

-Looks like Tess Rafols and Jared Dillingham have the 4:30-5:30 shift.

-Scott Pasmore and Olivia Fierro 5:30-9:00.

-Olivia and Javier Soto 9:00-10:00.

-Jamie Cerreta switches from nights to days and will take over GMAZ weekend, assume with Ryan O'Donnell.

GMAZ website shows Scott, Olivia, Javier, April Warnecke and Gina Maravilla. No pictures of Tess or Jared.

So, Tess is taking the former Olivia/Stella/Yetta position of early morning anchor. The addition of Jared is interesting since he has not previously had a permanent anchor position at 3TV. I'm surprised that they didn't give the position to Ryan O'Donnell (perhaps they didn't want to totally break up the weekend GMAZ team???).

Glad that Jamie gets the weekend GMAZ slot. She is a good anchor and needs a more prominent position, since most people do not watch 3TV's evening news.

So, I guess that means that Heather and Brandon will anchor GEAZ and 3TV News at 9/10pm? Where does Fields fit in or is he on his way out? As the integration with CBS5 continues, will 3TV cut back its evening newscasts? Will Karen Brown, who does not really impress me, continue to solo anchor that weekend evening news?

One more thing: GMAZ needs to have substitute for Gina when she is away (unless it's a holiday with no traffic). Having Olivia and Scott show a couple of traffic cams is not a good substitute for a detailed traffic report. How about Rich Dahlquist? He has done a great job subbing for Kim. Just cross-train him on traffic and have him as a fill-in traffic reporter as well. Or Tess could have done traffic from 5:30 to 10am, after she got done anchoring the early am news.

After thoroughly reading Tess' Facebook post, they have not yet decided who will anchor with Tess from 4:30 to 5:30am. It will be a rotation of Jared and Ryan until a final decision is made. I could easily see Ryan anchoring with Tess on weekdays and Jared filling Ryan's slot on the weekends. But who knows?

100% agree. I only watch the first 90-120 minutes of GMAZ and anytime Gina is off, they don't give good traffic reports. They need to have a dedicated sub on those days.

Well, here's a cryptic Facebook comment from none other than Brad Perry (regarding the new GMAZ photo with Olivia in it): "You know we are going to have to retake the pic....". Does this mean that Brad is coming back or at least talking to 3TV about coming back???

I won't be surprised if Meredith who owns both CBS 5 and 3TV, make cut backs on their newscasts as far as competing with one another. I think 3TV should keep GMAZ, have Good Evening Arizona from 4-5pm, CBS 5 News from 5-6pm, second half of Good Evening Arizona at 6pm, then keep CBS 5 News at 6:30pm, keep 3TV News from 9-10pm and eliminate the 10pm newscast since CBS 5 has a 10pm newscast. 3TV should also expand their weekend evening newscasts from 30 minutes to an hour; 9 to 10pm. Do you think Meredith would eventually do something similar as this or would they keep things as they are and compete with each other?

It doesn't appear that they are making moves to cut newscasts. If anything, they seem to be putting more effort into GMAZ with the recent reporter/anchor switches. Unless CBS5 simulcasts GMAZ, it seems that the CBS5 Morning News will continue as is. In the evening, there are certainly opportunities to consolidate newscasts. I could see them making azradiofan's suggested changes.
