New graphics for Action news & new station logo

Just noticed, although I imagine it happened yesterday, that ch6 has all new graphics. Looks good, but the big story is they have changed their logo. The classic 6 with a miniature ABC logo ontop is still their, but now its inside a blue circle itself, and the ABC logo ontop is now the official glossy network version & bigger (boo like we don't know what network it is). This isn't the first time ch6 has locked its logo inside a border. In the 90's the ch6 logo was inside a beveled box.

Anyway check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGdVzyQmRV8

And with that, the longest running station logo (except for the adding of the network logo) in the market falls. It was a short reign, after the death of "Anklepants 3," but now the longest running network logo in the market goes to WCAU's "NBC 10" being ushered in back in 1995.

I know you know better, Pab, but every time anyone calls the Westinghouse font "Anklepants," there's another big head-shaped dent in my wall...and the wall's getting pretty concave at this point... :D

(And once more, with feeling: the Group W typeface had no name, at least none that anyone knew of when I worked for Westinghouse. "Anklepants" is a freeware ripoff of the Group W typeface, and not even a very good one.)

I like the look. Can't help but think the new logo box was modeled after an iPhone/iPod/Android app button... first thing I thought of, anyway.

Also, haven't seen what it looks like on a non-HD screen, but I always thought the text size on the old graphics was way too big.

Don't award ch10 yet. Ch6 still has the classic 6 with the red ABC logo ontop on all non-action news appearances. However it will probably be updated too.

Also 2 changes took place to ch6's logo after NBC10. Network logo as you mentioned, but also the 6 was removed from the blue box they had in the mid 90's. Here is how the ch6 logo looked in 1996 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvbj1webD1w

The new 6 logo harkens to very familiar circle 7 logo most of 6's sister stations use and i think ABC wanted to unify the branding somewhat by having all their stations' logos inside a circle.

I also see that - the slight resemblance to the circle 7 logo of the sister stations, and WJLA.

I know. That's why it was in quotes, not as a statement.

Personally, I miss the old Pre-Field Communications WKBS 48 logo.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the same logo they've used for 40 years, just new trimming around it. The PVI "6" still reigns over all.
