New Guns N Roses....Horrifying

Have you guys seen or heard how bad Axil Rose looks these days... He doesnt sound like he used to, and he needs to lose some weight... Im not predudice on Large people by any means, but Axil Rose used to be Skinny as heck.... Are any so called ALT stations actually playing this crap, I wouldnt even play it on Active Rock.... Som Artists are Timeless,,,, GNR is not one of them.

The GNR album (Chinese Democracy) is actually good, but it wasn't 10-year-wait good.  I need to give it a few more listens before I can quantify how many years worth of wait it was really worth.  Would I play the title track on an alternative station?  Probably not.  Active or mainstream rock?  Hell yes.  Hell, I'm playing it on a CHR.

I've listened to it one time all the way through, and its got some good spots and some not so good spots, but its certainly not horrible. I agree with Franksandhotdogs though, its not 10 year wait good. Would I play it on an alternative station?? HELL YES! This album has been 10 years in the waiting, don't you think your audience might be interested in hearing it? I'm not saying that any song off the album should be a staple of your heavy rotation, but definitely worth some spins.

Well, maybe it will grow on me, its happened before ya know.. Ive only heard two cuts on the album,, but I heard a recent live concert recording from GNR and when they performed their classics like Sweet Child o mine, and Paradise City, and November rain, Mr brownstone,,,Not a big radio hit, but a cult classic none the less just to name a few,,, he just doesnt have that unique voice and style he used to.. They used to be one of the best Rock bands ever, but Axil just dont sound the same now, and I dont think othr band members like Slash are in the band anymore.. I was expecting more and expected Axil to sound like he used to, but then again, most those songs are 15 to 20 years old now, so ones voice is bound to change.... I doubt I play it at my CHR unless I see other stations having success with it.. Dont get me wrong,, I still love their classic material, just like I still like classic rock like Motley Crue and Poison,, but is this music really alternative??? Now AC-DC on the other hand, I think they still sound good, especially since they are much older and can still rock it out, i would probably test AC-DC at CHR over GNR,,, but if our listeners call in wanting to hear their music, and I see other big market stations playing it and having success, then its not my job to judge,, its the listeners that keep me having a paycheck, or else I would just program an Ipod,, Ive already got a lp station that I can play my main preference of Dance-Rhythmic music, but even though its just a hobby, if I want listeners I got to take listener requests and suggestive cristisim into consideration.

I guess it would depend on whether or not to play GNR on an alt station... if you were "too hip for the norm" like Indie in LA, then probably not, since you're pissing off the elite music fan which makes up most of their audience.  If not so, then probably yes.  My CHR airs an alt rock show on Sunday nights, and it's not being played on there (there's a policy where songs playing in regular B or A rotation don't get played on the alt show), though it's playing in regular rotation on the CHR, and the mainstream rock sister station is playing it heavily.

I'm not playing the new AC/DC on my CHR (the classic stuff is played on the old skool lunch and sometimes I'll spike You Shook Me as a gold in the day). But it's played heavily on the rocker sister, duh.

As for the GNR classics... we play all of 'em except Mr. Brownstone on my CHR's old skool lunch.  Mr. Brownstone is played on the rocker sister.

Maybe Axl can relax and get the next one out in just five years. ;D

Sorry, but any so-called "modern rock" or "alternative" station playing Guns and Roses needs it's Alternative license revoked.

After a few listens to the new album, the other songs are starting to grow on me, I'd say that at least half the album is more than decent IMO. Sure, maybe not the most glowing review other, but compared to what I've come to expect from albums lately, not bad.

There's nothing more alternative than playing what you think your listeners want to hear, even if it may sound different than TV On The Radio or other alleged alt darlings. This album has supposedly been coming out for the last ten years, and now suddenly its here. At least play a few tracks off it, see what people think, have some fun with it. If you went up to 100 of your listeners 6 months ago and asked "hey, you know that new Guns N' Roses album that was supposed to be out 5 years ago?? I have it here, aren't you curious to hear what it sounds like??" I bet most of them would say yes.

For what it is, it's not bad. Hopelessly overcooked and underfocused. Guitar solos do not belong in verses.

I heard the song the other night and was totally unphased by it.
