New high definition radio consortium's programming reminds me of satellite

Just saw a piece at Radio and Records about Clear Channel's new programming.

Reminds me of satellite radio, although I would guess the music offerings won't be commercial-free.

They even came up with a format that possibly Sirius should adopt, namely "Chick Rock and New Alternative." (Now why didn't I think of that?) ;-)

Here's the piece, FWIW:

CC Set To Reveal 'New Programming'

Clear Channel has scheduled a press conference for 11:30am ET tomorrow to "announce new programming," and the event could provide a first glimpse at the company's HD multicast offerings. As reported earlier today, the HD Radio Digital Radio Alliance hopes to have a total of 264 new HD2 channels up in 28 radio markets as part of its initial rollout. Among the formats that the consortium of radio companies has developed are several Rock formats — such as Deep Cuts Classic Rock, New Alternative, Chick Rock and New Alternative — along with Classic Alternative, Female Talk, Traditional Jazz & Blues, Extreme Hip-Hop and in-depth news channels.

The new HD2 channels are supposed to be commercial-free for the first 1-2 years. :)

You are correct sir!

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? This is the driving force to get people to buy HD Radios. Once there's some market penetration you can count on lots of HD commercials.<P ID="signature">______________

That means, soon, I can hear all my favorite commercials in near CD quality. It doesn't get any better than this.
