New Hip-Hop station for Portland area?

I wonder if it will ever happen again, i know there are listeners out there for Hip-Hop/R&B, nearest station is in Boston, 2 hours away. I think it would do well for the greater Portland area, like what WRED was. If I was to put one up, i'd make sure there would probably be some rythemic top 40 mixed in too, WRED was almost too rappy.

I actually miss both WRED and WLOB-FM.

Near the end WRED WAS actually playing rhythmic hits near the end of the run. Katy Perry, Maroon 5 (and not just the one with Rihanna), etc

really? that's great actually. I miss WRED too. Portland has a area population of over 200,000 and they can't support a second CHR?

doesn't make sense

BUT they can support 5 sports stations........

hip hop on the am?
is that what your talking about with the "new" 1440
wasn't that 1440 sports? they just CAN'T be playing sports on there,
tho with my luck, they probably are.

I highly doubt an urban AM station would ever work in Maine. We here in Hartford had a 5,000 watt station once called JAMZ 910 which mixed the hip hop with urban tracks and had a lean towards gospel/religion on Sunday mornings. Of course the only reason they had any success was because we didn't have an FM outlet for that at the time. Once WZMX-FM "Hot 93.7" came on, the AM station bit the dust a few months later.

Hey benwnn91, any speculation about am 1440 WRED Westbrook? They're parking those call letters there for what purpose?

who knows, they've changed 95.5/95.9's call letters a couple different times since picking up the 'EEI simulcast. By the end of next week they'll probably change the calls again
