new Hot 97.5 sweeper

It went something like..."We don't play Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys, or (in a condecending tone) Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. We play Hip-Hop,We live Hip-Hop..Hot 97-5."

Although they didn't mention KLUC by name, this had to be the most aggressive attack Hot ever made against KLUC. Even if they overstated how pop KLUC is, this sweeper seems a clever way for Hot to position themselves against their competition.

I wonder what they hope to accomplish by stating that they "don't play Kelly Clarkson"... don't they target 18-34 females? When did 18-34 females stop liking Kelly Clarkson? I'm just saying.... If I'm an 18-34 female who likes Kelly Clarkson, and I'm listening to Hot... I've just become aware of the fact that they're not going to play her... not a plus. Let's face it... the average female probably couldn't tell you 'musically' what the difference between Hot and KLUC is.

I think that's the purpose of the sweeper. It's targeted to the hip hop fans who have the perception that Hot 97.5 and KLUC are exactly the same. It's Hot's way of saying they are more hip-hop and less pop than KLUC.

Kelly Clarkson may be popular with 18-34 women in general, but many of her fans listen to stations like Mix as opposed to Hot. I'm sure many would also listen to a CHR/Pop if we had one.

Let the games begin! I think Hot will make a mistake if it tries to take on KLUC in this manner. Cat Thomas is a pro, his taste in football teams aside, he will eat up 97.5 in a "liner war".......can you say mild 10 WHO?
