NEW HOT AC IN REDDING

Spanish Mega 101.1 in Redding has flipped to what appears to be a Hot AC format as Mix 101.1. On Friday they had John Tesh in the morning and On-Air with Ryan Seacrest in the afternoon. Tonight they're playing AT40 with Seacrest.

At first I thought 101.1 was an AC clone of K-Shasta, but as the day progressed they were playing more upbeat music, including Kesha, Gaga, Katy Perry, and lots of Kelly Clarkson, Train, Pink, Kings of Leon, Rob Thomas, and the usual Hot AC fare.

Redding has not had a true Hot AC since Mapleton killed the old Mix at 99.3 a few years ago. Even though they claimed to be CHR, they never touched the Rythmic stuff, so they sounded very Hot ACish. And since then 99.3 has been Hank Country and now a simulcast of right-winger KQMS-AM. Tesh was on K-Shasta 104.3, but Mapleton local PD Don Burton apparently has re-taken morning drive.

I wonder if Mapleton and / or Results will react to this flip. And I wonder if anybody will try Spanish in Redding now. Might be a good fit for 96.1 (failing with ESPN) or that right-wing independent AM at 1460. Stay tuned!

Even though 1460 is failing, I don't think the owners would be willing to flip it, since they're very dedicated to the current talk format. I could see 96.1 as Spanish, but Results has never programmed a Spanish station before, so It would be Interesting to see

Last time I spoke to Dennis Crepps (the owner of KZRO), it was still for sale at a bargain price of 1.5 million (over a million more than it's probably worth).

He still has dreams of purchasing a Chicago rimshot at the expense of whomever overpays for KZRO. That's why it's been on the market for about 5 years now.

if i hit it i'd by kzro and 99.9(kcrx i think) out of yuba colusa(hispanic aimed at sac) to create a superstation covering all of the north valley.

But what format? Polka?? to piss people off since I'd have so much money I'd be lighting hundred dollar bills to light my stogie.

wow - normally i am mixed on the
"super-station" networks, but this time
99.9/100.1 sounds like it would be *AWESOME*
-
now im NOT in the market but that just sounds
soo exciting -and- poses the question , what
format would reeeely "FLY" on this 2 station network?
-
"pop"40/with a dance lean would be my first choice...
with a 'quirkey' name such as, "Liquid"(FM) and use
the freq.only when needed ,about x2 times as fast
( with the help of cool edit : ) lol

other option: would a sports station ( there) be viable ?

99.9 and 100.1 are both rimshots to Chico and Redding, 99.9 would have better coverage in Sacramento than Chico (however, KRCX does better in the Chico ratings than Le Gran X 97.7, which is actully in Chico) And 100.1 Is meant to cover Weed, Mt. Shasta, Yreka etc., however it means you would have (weak) coverage from Sacramento (even parts of the Bay Area if your a DXer) to the Oregon Border.

reading the last post (from travisL5678) made me laugh for two reasons:
(and wants me to win now more than ever) lol
-
that a station out of the market "books"(ratings) better than one
licensced to the city - and the other reason, to have a (all though
it would be weak) a station from the bay area to the OREGON border...
that would be wild !!!! not 100% familiar w/ the geograghy soo im
not sure how far/how many people...etc, but (WOW) thats my
new radio dream!! lol

As David Eduardo has said many times, most people won't listen to stations that don't come in REALLY Strong, unless it had a hard to find format, such as KRCX's Spanish format beating Deer Creek's Le Gran X (which I'm sure is a poorly programmed satelite feed, competing against a station in a Top 30 market owned by Entravision) So Basically you would have listeners in Sacramento, Yuba/Sutter, Weed/Shasta/Yreka, and some listeners in Chico and Redding.

hard format to find - what about a TRUE dance channel on
US airwaves would be exciting . . not a top40,
with a twist, but a true dance station.
playing new artists, along with dance
sensations from the 90s,2000.
