New Hot AC: WISX/Philadelphia "Mix 106.1"

While still listed on mediabase as a Rhythmic AC, this station has been moving towards Hot AC since the summer. They are now listed as a Hot AC on Clear Channel's website. Look for them to move over to the Hot AC panel soon.

They are doing an "interactive playlist" thing starting Thursday. Interesting to see if this is just a gimmick or something new and unique.

I don't have an issue with Hot AC at all, and I believe it a very viable format. If you look at the Nielsen ratings, you'll see a lot of crossover appeal, back and forth, from the AC chart and the CHR chart, which is basically what Hot AC is.

Most of the CHR crossover to AC is due to the Hot AC format that many stations have adopted, and rightfully so (they were smart). I like the format, as the AC demographic is getting very old (as mentioned above), so the appeal of AC is not as strong as it used to be, while Hot AC fills the niche for the AC listener of today. Hot AC will become the new AC. Who knows what CHR will become. Maybe Christian Rock will become CHR, and the screamer bands will be exclusively on the Christian Rock format? Time and culture will shape the formats. It always has.
