NEW HOUSE MIXSHOW!!!! Super Estrella After Hours...

It just started this weekend. 2-4am Saturdays. It's sounding really nice, and it's bilingual. They have 2 girls talking and guest DJ's. From what I was told by friends at the station, the show is actually LIVE!!!

I listened to it on my way home from the club, and it was pretty cool. It has that Richard Vission feel to it where it's partially underground and partially commercial. Very upbeat and the mixing was pretty clean. Def. give it thumbs up!!!

Why would they do this? What part of the "six month cycle" are they on?

No one cares about "Super Estrella". If I want my afterhours fix, I'll just stream B96 out of Chicago or WiLD 94.9 out of SF. KIIS needs an afterhours progressive house show!

It will be totally merchandised to advertisers and they will show no revenue against it and dump it inside 6 months. It is the Entravision way.

Wow can't believe this is already up..
My friend has an small agency up North and told me about this show as one his clients might be a sponsor of the show.
He send me the slides on info on the show he received from a sales person there.

Here is what I know from the slides i have with me .
The show is saturday afterhours 1am-4am.
It has 5 female dj mixers , 2 guy dj's and 1 events host:
Dj Caroline Posada, Joe Energy, Dj Lil CSR, Dj Erika Starr, Dj Mahli, Dj Stephanie Loayza & Leslie Karen.
The other female Dj I couldn't find in the kit so don't know what happened there.
Show is bilingual.

Show is live and packages are out from what Marc told me .
I searched on facebook to see if I could find more info.
I saw a post on facebook that this saturday they are gonna have Paul Oakenfold and guests dj's.

From my understanding from my friend Mark they are planning big things for this show.
I know that one of his clients is getting close to wanting to do a sponsorship wit the show in the 25 k range.
I don't know if that's alot for being late night radio or not but doesn't sound too bad i think?

I think he's gonna get another slide for another client of his that is also
interested in doing a campaign with them.
If i get more new info on this I will post it.

Let's see what this saturday brings.
All I know is Paul Oakenfold is on this week woo hooo.
Hopefully the facebook post is correct

What's keeping Entravision from selling the L.A. stations? Or, at least dumping the format on the 107.1(s)? It hasn't done well in the ratings for awhile. KDLD/E's ratings are going back to reality, according to August PPM's. Apparently, the revenue isn't there, or am I wrong?

Why are there practically no deals at all? No lending, and prices being offered are below what owners want.

KDLD and KLYY resumed normal level ratings after the World Cup ended. In breakouts they published in trade magazines, they were, together, #1 in LA for a month in the dayparts when games played. Since advertisers knew in advance the enormous power of the World Cup, a lot of revenue was created in those 4 weeks and the months leading up to them.

Question is:

What language is the afterhours music (primarily) in? Not many people will be expecting it if it's underground or mainstream dance hits.. in english.

If I remember I think "La Nueva Fiesta" in Long Island did give afterhours mixes of tropical songs...

I took a listen to this show, it's gotta be the worst radio show I've ever heard. The girls hosting sound like dumb teenage blondes hosting a slumber party, and the music they played isn't even intense than what they play on Chicago's B96 Street Mix with Mixin Marc, Powertools or even 99.1's DJ Lynnwood's Earthquake Mix. I tuned out after 5 minutes.

How does it compair to Powertools?

I'm talking about it music-wise. The music they play on Powertools is way better than what they play on this show.

So I took a listen to both Powertools and this Super Afterhours show from til 4am on Saturday Night
About the worst radio show i would have to disagree. I have heard bad mixshows before and this isnt one of them.
I can agree with you that its different
It's not Powertools and no mixshow will ever be a Powertools but this show isn't too bad.

I have to say Powertools had a cool show this week.

The afterhours show was cool too but different.

Listening to the past 2 weeks seems like the new afterhours shows is sounding nothing like Powertools
or the Earthquake mix. I feel like it's being different .
Which I think is cool . It's not trying to be like another show but be its own identity...

I'm curious to see one of these female dj's they have mix at an event to see if they are as good as they sound on air.

Main thing here is props to all 3 mixshows for supporting the dance music format.
Without them southern Ca. would not have dance mixshows.
Powertools will always be my favorite but this show is different and I will listen to both shows on saturdays.

I will listen this week to all 3 mixshows and see what they promote this week .

Lil Cesar, Erica Starr, and Joe Energy are all veteran from the LA Club scene. I played with Lil Cesar & Joe Energy back in the 90's, and with Erica Starr several years ago. She's actually quite popular on the club scene right now. I never heard of any of the other ones.

This weekend, I tuned out quickly. The first week was really good when Lil Cesar was playing, I tuned out after he was done.

Powertools will always be Powertools. I don't really like it as much as I used to back in the early 90's, but it's still a good show. If LA aired The Essential Mix, Tiesto's Club Life, A State of Trance, or any other of the big european mixshows, than yeah, Powertools would have some real competition.

Why Don't They Bring Back A Dance/CHR Station But A Better Siginal

This sounds like a decent idea for that area, but could it be done sensibly and successfully with all the other chr's of every type there that flirt with dance already? I think in order to bring in a station like this, one of the already existing formats would have to flip because there are already an incredible amount of chr sounding stations in L.A, California, where the C in CHR stands for California.

I think KIIS already has L.A. top 40 well covered, so maybe another chr or even a station that's not even chr but chooses to flirt with a lot of chr material as an attempt to steal listeners from other stations could consider flipping or being flipped to fit the rhythm dance format.

One rhythmic dance station - like the one in New Jersey; Sounds a lot better of an idea than just having "everyone" doing a dance show or two on a weekend night with a bunch of rhythmics of different styles and languages flirting with the dance sound. I hope everyone is reading in between the lines and getting what I'm really trying to say here.

Joe Energy is actually a sales guy for entravision radio
