New Illinois SDRs

A couple of new Illinois SDRs that you guys might want to check out. One in Dixon, IL, about 100 miles west of Chicago. The other one is in Normal, IL (Bloomington), which is about midway between Chicago and Saint Louis in the geographic center of the state....about 150 miles from each city. I've only "kicked the tires" on these two, but initial indications are very promising.

There's also a new SDR in Springfield, IL. About 100 miles northeast of Saint Louis. But that one doesn't appear to be set up for AM broadcast band reception,

Thanks...I'll give them a whirl. I've tried out Peoria. I'm waiting for one to pop up in a place I lived and worked briefly, the Quincy IL/Hannibal MO area

Off the top of my head, my wish list would be to see a few more in Florida and the southeast. Mexico, and maybe one around Toronto (that's set up for the AM band). I don't want to be "greedy" however. I'm more than greatful for the fine array of what's already available to us all over the world.

Speaking of Florida I was on the Key West receiver at about 5AM this morning (couldn't sleep so might as well DX).
Anyway, some of the Chicago blowtorches were blasting in especially WGN and WBBM. They sounded like locals. Even WLS was in over Cuba.

More Florida would be good, also Southern California (optimized for MW). There are several in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, but would be nice to have something in the southwest. There's a relatively new one north of Indianapolis (Noblesville) so between Edinburgh and that one, it's possible to check conditions both north and southeast of Indy. The dial in Noblesville is very familiar from living in the Frankfort area. Last time I checked Key West, I had WLW and WCKY, and I think WGN.

WLW most of the time seems to do very well on the Key West rcvr. It sometimes seems like they have a pipeline. I too would like to see a MW receiver in Southern California.

One thing that surprises me about WLW is that, despite their potent signal over a large swath of North America eminating from their Blaw-Knox tower, is that I've never heard them on any of the Europe SDRs. Same goes for WSM, which also has a Blaw-Knox. Maybe I'm the exception, but I'm still a little surprised.

Now that you mention it neither have I. I'm wondering if that's because there are stations in those areas occupying those frequencies?

Yeah, that's probably a factor. There are a few others that fall into that category. The 810 BBC blowtorch from Scotland being just one example that comes to mind. Which explains why I've never heard WGY. Actually...I spent a couple of nights in a hotel in Edinburgh once. 810 was the only MW signal that was able to penetrate the old stone, steel, and concrete building.

I've never been able to get WGN on the European SDRs. I can't remember if it's the UK, but there are some very strong signals around 720.

Thanks for the heads up!
I'd love to hear an SDR with better reception in the Houston area, preferably to the south. The one in Kingwood doesn't pick up AM very well. Nearer to me, the receivers between Dayton and Cincinnati are on the map but haven't worked in ages. Not even the VOA SDR is online anymore.

One in Dayton would be DXing from home for me. There's one I found in Columbus that wasn't too bad.

On a cold winter day when I was at Clearwater Beach to do some daytime AM DXing, WLW was coming in strong and steady at 1 in the afternoon.

Interesting to note that there was not a trace of WCKY, also from Cincinnati, which is on a much higher frequency.

When I left to drive back to Tampa, the signal of WLW was gone and after many attempts I never was able to hear it at all in the daytime in Tampa in the winter.

There are three around Dayton that I've found. The one in Beavercreek is the best of the three but it has a lot of interference across the band from some combination of WONE, WHIO and WING or all three. It's pretty annoying.
Agree the one in Westerville, in the northeast part of the Columbus area, is pretty good. Same for the one just outside Lima.
I don't know why the two in Warren County even continue to show up on the map. I don't remember the last time the SDR at VOA was active and I've never heard the one that appears to be located a few miles east of Lebanon.

The WING, WHIO and WONE towers are all close together so them all mixing would not surprise me in Beavercreek.

Apologies for my previous unintended duplicate post. No idea what happened or how. I guess I'm still getting used to the new and improved format of these boards! :)
