New Internet Station - Comboland Radio

Knowing some of this crowd I might regret placing this here :D but….

I have started an internet radio station devoted to the rock based music from the Carolinas. It is called “Comboland Radio” with the name borrowed from the “Comboland” compilation LP that was released in 1985. Arrogance, The Fabulous Knobs, Connells, Spongetones, Othermothers, Woods and may others are featured, along with some of the current bands and artists. Check it out. http://www.combolandradio.com Let the flaming begin! ;D ;D

No flames here. Competition whether internet, satellite, etc., is always good. In any business it is good. If an old dinosaur industry like broadcasting has turned into can't compete, then it is time to get out of the kitchen. It sounds good Moose and a good idea.

R U dong it legal, paying the fees and such? I hear it can be a big chunk. Do you have the Live365 package that covers it all for you?

It is totally legal, with all of the fees going to all of the agencies required. So far dealing wiht Live365 has been a breeze.

Just wondering, since I saw Glass Moon on youtube a couple years back, and that was from Comboland, if anybody knows where the word "Comboland" came from?

On the history page of the website there is an article written by Godfrey Cheshire which explains where he got the term from, at later used on the “Welcome To Comboland” LP that was released of the British “Making Waves” label.

Oh…. And Sniff…. word

Nice station! The audio sounds real good. Whatcha using for processing?

Don

I'm using Jim Barcus's "Digital Juke Box" as the automation system and there is an audio compressor included. That's it! I did spend a bit of time making sure individual song levels where they needed to be.

First there was Jack, then Bob, then Simon .. now there is "Moose". Still lovin' it!

Thanks X!

The first real promotional push will be in November. Metro Magazine is doing an article on the station, and I am going try to do some other things around that time to raise awareness. I was voice-tracking it for awhile and that will resume in November as well. Not too much but I do think you have to identify the new music and artists. Till then still working out some bugs.... not too many though. The whole process has been surprisingly easy. DJB is a neat and affordable system. Eventually I will need to get some advertisers/sponsors. Right now it is an expensive hobby!

And.... using a different encoder as of this morning. This one is supposed to be a bit more stable and less strain on the cpu. Also it allows me to use plug-ins. Running a different processor now, more like what I am used to hearing. What do you think?
