We are just a month away from the premiere of ROOTSofROCK.US featuring post-WWII pre-Rock 'n Roll era pop/country-hillbilly-folk/R&B from 1944-1954 ("The Music Elvis Grew Up With!"). This will be one unique station exploring the music that melded into mainstream R 'n R. The format clock will be a two-hour thirty-three song sweep of the decade interspersed with historical references from each year and we'll be starting off with a library of over 1,200 songs.
The music from this time period is absolutely fun to listen to...and you soon realize that mainstream rockers covered a lot of songs from this time frame...Linda by Jan & Dean, There I've Said It Again by Bobby Vinton, Sloop John B. by the Beach Boys...and probably 100s of other songs of the rock era are remakes...and most are not as good as the originals. Novelty songs like those from Spike Jones, The Woody Woodpecker Song from Kay Kyser (1948) and Smoke Smoke Smoke from Tex Williams (1947) are a hoot.
ROOTSofROCK.US is a sister station to our 50s/60s Rock 'n Roll stream, Radio Bop, at RadioBop.com -- in November, the all 60s version, Radio Bop 60s, begins operation...and we'll be adding a fourth stream with a format to be announced in early 2008.
