Your view of legally licensed facilities is obviously not real world. I'm in the business and slinging around claims of causing interference or calling legal stations pirates is very insensitive. You and I see radio differently. For me, it is a business that operates because we found the money to make that happen. In that respect, a distant listener well beyond my 40, 50 or 60 dbu is worthless as you don't reside in my primary service area or buy from my local advertisers. As a radio listener I get loving a distant radio station that cannot be heard now. I loved hearing an Ardmore Oklahoma station in Mesquite (Dallas metro) in high school but by the time I graduated another station occupied the space this Ardmore station once occupied because the frequency enjoyed a geographic area that was unclaimed until a new station claimed it. You might have many friends that feel just as you do. Funny things, friends tend to think alike. In the general population, I doubt 1 in 100 would have ever heard of the stations in question at your location. I also have many friends who would feel your comments are insensitive and worse, but like I mentioned, friends tend to think alike.
If you want to direct your feelings, try the FCC. They approved EVERY station, translator, LPFM, etc. You mentioned you complained to the FCC about being unable to hear distant stations. Don't expect a response. KQXT heard in Round Rock & KWTX from Waco...both well beyond the protected, licensed and intended coverage of these licensed stations. As explained before, they were never supposed to be heard so distantly but, as explained, were heard distantly because the frequency had some open or unclaimed geography without a licensed station to block that reception. Your complaint involves stations who occupy geographic space the other station you want to hear had enjoyed. It wasn't that they were supposed to be heard so distantly but rather that unused geographic territory was not occupied by another station, it seems, until fairly recently. While you dislike this, the stations you mention could care less because you are outside their intended coverage area where they generate the income they need to survive. In fact they aren't even supposed to be heard so distantly.
By the way, Translators and LPFMs are real radio stations. What do you think a translator is? It is a repeater of the host station or in other words, the real time repeating of a full power radio station.
It sure would be nice if your posts were easier to read. With no periods and capitals to start every word, it's really hard to get what you have to say.
My suggestion, since this obviously bothers you, is to see if you can derive the same enjoyment from listening to the stream of these stations. Most of them do stream. I know that removes the fun of scanning the dial but if you enjoy the content/programming, it's the next best thing.
