New Jersey high school FM surrenders radio license

I am missing something here,,,,,,,,,,,is there a filing window open that nobody else knows about? ???

The Jersey Shore Shuffle folks should shut off their transmitter now and apply for that license.

It's a shame the Brick School District turned the license in to the FCC - They could have sold that license for a decent sum of money which could have been used to lower school taxes

WBNJ should apply to boost their power/tower height since they're already on 91.9 Mhz.

It would cost more for a filling for a change of licence. A postage stamp.

It was never for sale. What did they think was going to happen to them? They sat on it for three years. They surrendered it so they wouldn't have to face a fine.

Should be quite interesting who eventually is granted that FM license.

There is supposed to be an LPFM filing window next June.

That's an education band license, not an LPFM.
They are totally different, and a licensee of one
can't hold the other.

Surrendering a license after the fact doesn't negate a fine for a violation occuring with the license in their possesion.

A lot has happened since WBGD was on the air.

The Board of Ed. clearly didn't see a need to maintain the license any longer.

We have a High School in Clearwater that has indicated its intent to not have books for its students. It is using the "Kindle" instead.

Yes it does. It depends on whether or not the commission feel like it.
If a station is off the air for a year they yank the license. Theyh were sent a letter asking them if they were on the air in 2008 and apparently told them that they were becuase nothing was done about it. Not being truthful with the FCC can get your license yanked. Guess the somehow found out they were being lied too.

"§ 73.1015 Truthful written statements and responses to Commission
inquiries and correspondence.

The Commission or its representatives may, in writing, require from any
applicant, permittee, or licensee written statements of fact relevant
to a determination whether an application should be granted or denied,
or to a determination whether a license should be revoked, or to any
other matter within the jurisdiction of the Commission, or, in the case
of a proceeding to amend the FM or Television Table of Allotments,
require from any person filing an expression of interest, written
statements of fact relevant to that allotment proceeding. Any such
statements of fact are subject to the provisions of § 1.17 of this
chapter."

Huh? Who holds another one? A non-profit group with no other radio interests can own an LPFM.

It's worded with a twist, but what Tom's saying is, an LPFM licensee cannot hold ANY other station license. They won't grant you one. LPFMs are one to a customer.

If you hold a licence for a non-com 88-92Mc, you cannot own an LPFM. If you own an LPFM, and purchase a non-com, you must divest of the LPFM. BOTH are non-com, of course, but the LPFMs are up to 100 watts in the commercial band, while the others in the non-com band (88-92) may be blowtorches. So a non-profit LPFM group may want to fundraise and purchase a bigger signal, great. When they do, they must sell-off the LPFM. Like Tom said, you cant own both.

I see we had our signals crossed. My question, or statement was, if there is an LPFM window next year, and since WBGD has been deleted why couldn't a non-profit group apply for an LPFM on that frequency? This also assumes that the FCC eliminates the 3rd adjacent channel if that is even applicable in this case.

The question was answered in the text you quoted.

LPFM's are on the commercial band (92-108) while
88-92 is reserved for non-commercial stations.

They don't mix them. If someone wants to apply for
WBGD's frequency, it would be a non-comm.

Someone should do it fast before the "neighbors" take
up the slack and get power increases or move, etc.
