Any word on new talent? Morning show...Middays...Afternoons?

Please forgive me if I show some ignorance-but at least there is some thought to what I'm about to write. Although-in my opinion-Mix fm is not a great station-with less than stellar dj's-so My92.9 plays the same format of music-with outside Tucson clear channel "talent"-is it set that way to bring Mix fm numbers down a bit to help Krqq become a solid number 2? I listened for a while over the weekend-92.9 still was a waste of a 100,000 watt signal. Tucson radio market is a shame-thank goodness for ipod's and satelite radio.

Overnight MyMusic 1am-6am
Otto Mation 6am-10am
Mr Prophet 10am-4pm
Ms Prophet 4pm-8pm
Christopher 8pm-9pm
Otto Pilot 9pm-1am

Listened for about 10 minites. BORING! Still gonna say it... Tucson needs a good OLDIES station. One that does not play Slow Ride every 45 minutes.

If you're hoping to target 70 year olds on Social Security, then oldies is a desirable format as an owner.

Not much money there. Or advertiser demand.

I can ahndle about 3 songs, then I have to switch. I have to force myself to tune back in.

A couple of thoughts:

The processing is horrible. It is so flat that even the high end of the female imaging voice splatters. Male imaging: John Pliesse .....he sounds awefully tired for a new station.

Love the sweeper "Not too old, not too soft" . They should add "Not too good" too it.

Please fix the processing.

I'm sure that former Tucson managers Debbie Wagoneer and Tim Richard shared a moment of silence as their beloved AAA station slipped into purgatory. Not enough unshaved "occupiers" to support that hippie format.

On the other hand...Great now we have yet another station to play the crap out of Journey Don't stop Believin and Bruno Mars songs that KRQ burned to the ground.

Have to agree. K-Mountain had a shot when it launched. Then the mega mids had to tinker with it. The rest is history....or what has made it history. The "green" approach in a community where people still burn their garbage and toss away their beer bottles and milk jugs with their trash ain;t gunna cut it. When the curtain was pulled back, it revealed a builing full of corporate posers. Game over for K-Mountain.

The hippie, left wing, Mother Earth format was a bust in the Old Pueblo.....again.

This latest installment is a hands-off format, by design. Some schmoo will update the production. The music is Premium Choice, so look for some daypart talent cram-downs to arrive after the music has settled. Maybe for January?

****Please fix the processing. You running a 8100? Horrible hiSSSSSSS****

Way back when COOL Oldies ran on 92.9 for a solid 15-20+ years? Now it seems nothing works:

Coyote Country, The Mountain, My 929 (pre-canned premium choice)

I'll tip a beer or two in memory as I wear my old COOL 92.9 jacket. It happens throughout the industry, but I'm glad I'm still not in Tucson to see it happen to one of the best. Bad enought that KWFM is now an AM.
Former CE, Bill Croghan.

I'm not sure what your complaint is regarding "nothing works". While it's true that Coyote Country only lasted a little over 2.5 years, The Mountain lasted 8 years, which seems like an eternity these days for a station that changed formats during the 00's. Furthermore, there are several markets without an AAA station. I actually enjoyed the days of acoustic sunrise, acoustic sunset, and the brief Chill side of the mountain.

Furthermore, it surprises me that some of you would chose to listen to the same old cranked out oldies (which is what you would hear on an oldies station or even rhythmic oldies) day after day, year after year when there are plenty of current artists who aren't getting any airplay.

Cool 92.9! I played the Oldies there in PM Drive when Dave Parks was the PD. It was a short 2 1/2 years for me there starting in 1993 - then leaving to go back to Houston in 1995 to KLDE. But it was a blast. I often remember those days.

Jim Conlee

I just read that Jim Conlee did a post on this Tucson Radio board-great to find out where you went after leaving COOL 92.9 .Jim was part of a very talented air staff that included-Allan Michaels-Joan Lee-think Rick Zurick was also there among others.Good to see that there is radio life after the big companies squash talent like many have done.
And as far as 92.9 goes-it still is a waste of a big FM stick-most of the music is already on Mix now, does Clear Channel think their way of doing anything is better than another company's braintrust? How about actually thinking what a city this size would want to listen to on FM and support by advertsing on it.

Come to Phoenix, and you'll have to listen to KZZP, KZON, KMVA, AND KKFR just to get everything KRQ and KOHT alone plays. I also like how KOHT seems to be faster on new music than a few stations in Phoenix, despite the fact that we have FOUR chr's (or actually 3 and a half...).

So, it's not really all THAT bad there (unless you are not a rhythmic or chr fan).

Like a few on this topic I too think that 92.9 should have stayed as an oldies station probalby would have evolved to the modern incarnation of that type of format and would have saved 100's of thousands of dollars from all those format changes and all the stuff that has to change everytime you do that. For those that say there is no oldies station in Tucson, have you listened to KHIT 107.5 lately? If not plan on hearing Elvis, Monkees, Respect, Hollies etc.
