new jocks at movin

Noticed that KQMV has posted yet another ad on www.allaccess.com for air personalities. They have posted ads several times since June...and still no jocks. What does this mean? Does Sandusky not pay enough for big market types to come to their station....or is it that the first time PD doesn't know what she's looking for? Many on this board said that movin would have jocks long before now....what's the deal? My guess is that Sandusky is so conservative that they are waiting on a couple of books before they actually commit to this format. C'mon....they only own a few stations in Phoenix and a couple of stations here...why take a risk. Run your stations as lean as possible....with very little money going toward talent and almost no money going toward PD's (both WARM and movin have PD's with NO experience) and you actually look good OK on paper. I think this is a very smart move by GM Mark Kaye. He is planning his retirement as we speak....why spend the money on bringing anyone in town for a gig. Hmmmmm....the new WARM PD was local with no experience....the new movin PD was local with no experience.....brilliant!

When Movin first came on the air, they were looking for jocks. The word was that they were going to fill the afternoon slot first. Awkward move given the need for some kind of morning show anchor.

About Warm: Laura Dane has PD experience in Albany and Nashville. Her experience here in Seattle as MD at KBSG does make sense for her PD title at Warm.

Both the PD's you mention are worthy of the title. Both have served as a Top notch MDs and have the years and know how to warrent being elevated to the next level.

I do agree that there is a real need for personality on the 925 side of things. A VT'ed mid show and a Bell Biv Devoe, Mix a lot and Ton-Loc concert with free Beef Jerky aint gonna cut it.

Who should or could come in to fill this void. I knew of one person from out of market but they ended up taking a job else where. Another person I talked to said they felt they had a solid chance from all indications but after 2 months they too opted for another gig......

I think Sandusky wanted to go w/ an PMD talent first, then nights and bring on an AM show in early '07......

I guess my question is if they have been posting this opening for sooo long why no takers.....Is it the talent pool is THAT CRAPPY...There isn't one jock out there or in this market that can do the job.....Sad if that's the case. Or is it B the talent they want won't work for the $ being offered........Then what does that in turn say about the Company........

I think they have missed the boat on their best chance of landing a solid personable jock with the know how and other talents that really matter.

Good luck guys as you will need it in this Fall Book.

Oh I feel GOOD now !!

Could it maybe be that the PD @ MOViN knows what she wants and can't find it.. that she doesn't want to put someone on the air just for someone to be on the air. Look @ KLSY MIX 92-5.. some of the airstaff was OK some was crap.. maybe she wants to do it right and it be perfect!

And Lisa Adams has experience.. Awesome Music Director for 2 stations in Seattle and now PD at MOViN... sorry they aren't running a cookie cutter station like some are use to!

Give them a chance. I always say wait and see for four books.
It is possible that MOVIN will do just fine without jocks. They have been up three out of four trends. Remember the POINT and THE Beat. Both launched and did well without air talent. When they added talent the stations died. Now they might have died anyway, but without talent they were stronger.
Might be MOVIN is just a fill-in format to get some quick numbers and will hybrid into something else. Several JACK stations have hybrided into Classic Hits or Classic Rock stations. Many of the old 80's stations became HOT/AC stations. MOVIN may get early numbers and hybrid into a CHR or rhythmic CHR when the shine goes away. Then they add talent.

My guess is they won't do anything until they see numbers dip. That is why I say wait for the four-book.

Ironically...KLSY probably HAD a strong talent that would do well with Movin. James Parker could probably sound great with this format. But if budget is an issue ... what the heck. Why not get the WARM talent pool to voice track some Movin' shows. Might even get me to listen to the station long enough to hear THAT train wreck!!!

James Parker? You've got to be kidding me... I don't think a guy with a deep Barry White voice is going to sound hip on this fast paced station.. maybe he would be ok @ Smooth Jazz, but, while I"m sure he is a nice guy I didn't care for him as a jock.. voiceover talent maybe, but, not a jock.

The night guy MIX used, Matt Case, had a huge amount of energy and I think would fit in on MOViN... but other than that I don't think the KLSY jocks were very good... But MOViN already has a PD that was a old MIX jock, so I doubt they'd even hire anyone back from KLSY

Matt Case sounded decent the few times I heard him on KLSY, but I wouldn't put him above the rest of that old KLSY staff. Don't take anything away from Mitch Elliot, he had/has a ton of talent. Too bad he didn't know he was boarding the Titantic after it was on the way down.

Mitch Elliot had the unfortunate luck of working with titanic troublemaker Lisa Foster. Doomed from the start.
