NEW K-Rock DJs

Finally heard a couple jocks on the air at K-Rock besides O&A. Nick Carter was on this afternoon. On Friday afternoon a guy named Woody was on. Neither of those have been officially announced but this one was last week on all access:

"Rumors are confirmed that SCHWENKER, night jock at CUMULUS Alternative WRRV/POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, is heading to nights at CBS Active Rocker WXRK (K-ROCK)/NEW YORK."

Anyone know who those first two are, and if there's anything still open? Mornings with O&A, then Schwenker, Nick Carter, Woody. No chicks?

Well finally the station is showing some promise. Hopefully in the future they would bring in a high profile afternoon drive show to keep the audience locked. Also I hope they will expand the playlist so it can skew younger.

Hopefully this will trickle down to the Philly market. The listener suicide rate has doubled in the past year.

It appears they are getting a little heavier on the currents as well. Getting ready for PPM, I imagine.

Really? I still think they only play 10-15 currents. Points for adding the new Coheed, Paramore and Flyleaf. No points for adding Kid Rock (do Active Rock/Rock or Alternative stations even play him anymore?)

I have heard Kid Rocks Latest on a couple active/alt stations.

It doesn't hurt to punch Tommy Lee before your CD drops.

Lets check out the log.

8:00 PM The Offspring - Come Out And Play
8:03 PM Jimmy Eat World - Sweetness
8:07 PM Kid Rock - So Hott (CURRENT)
8:17 PM The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Other Side
8:21 PM Radiohead - Paranoid Android
8:28 PM Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
8:33 PM Paramore - Misery Business (CURRENT)
8:36 PM Linkin Park - Crawling
8:44 PM Soundgarden - Fell On Black Days
8:48 PM Foo Fighters - The Pretender (CURRENT)
8:54 PM The Beastie Boys - Girls
8:59 PM Bush - Machinehead
9:03 PM The White Stripes - Icky Thump (CURRENT)
9:13 PM Metallica - The Unforgiven
9:19PM Incubus - Wish You Were Here
9:23PM Welcome To Jam Rock - Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley
9:26PM Daughter - Pearl Jam
9:30PM Tarantula - Smashing Pumpkins (CURRENT)
9:33PM Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumkins
9:45PM Bombtrack - Rage Against The Machine
9:49PM When I Come Around - Green Day
9:52PM All Around Me - Flyleaf (CURRENT)
9:56PM Low - Cracker

They are playing a current for about every three songs. It's SLIGHTLY better than what they were doing before. I guess you're right about the quantity lacking quality. But according to this log, at least a lot of the classic rock has been weeded out, but that might be because its late.

The new Kid Rock single is getting heavy airplay nation-wide on both Active and "so called Alternative" stations. It's currently #14 on the Billboard modern rock chart and #5 on the mainstream rock chart.

That's a fair argument about the currents but, in reality, "Tarantula" and "Icky Thump" are more re-currents at this point (as they are falling down the charts). There should more new songs played per hour. I am happy the classic rock is starting to get weeded out. Hopefully it continues to improve...

Nik Carter was at BCN in Boston, I liked him on the air here, some didn't. He was @ K-Rock pre Free FM, through Free FM on weekends, and now present day K-Rock. He's a good guy and somebody I think could work in the evening drive at Krock if surrounded by the right people.

Well.... "Icky Thump" is still #5 on the charts. "Tarantula" has fallen to #14.

But both songs have been out for several months. Market #1 (or #2 KROQ) should be the first one that plays the new songs first, instead of the being on the same level as Market #50.

 I hear that song way too damn much. sometimes even on 2 stations at once up here in VT bad enough k-rock was playing it!

Is anyone else suprised that they play "Hey There Delilah" as much as they do? I thought that was CHR/Top 40 cut now...

That's usually what happens when a band has a hit single. My point is that it's a CHR/Top 40 song now, why does K-Rock (who is billing themselves as Active Rock) feel the need to give it so much airtime? If it's a song we can hear on so many different stations here in NYC (Z100, PLJ, BLI, Lite FM even probably) why not make more room for songs that are exclusive to the rock/alternative format?
