KEDJ Names Tim Virgin APD/MD

Virgin moves from WHFS to KEDJ
RIVIERA BROADCAST GROUP Alternative KEDJ (THE EDGE 103.9)/PHOENIX names TIM VIRGIN as APD/MD, effective OCTOBER 15th. VIRGIN has been interim PD at CBS RADIO Talk/Alternative WHFS (FREE-FM)/BALTIMORE for the past three months. In addition to nights, VIRGIN was also APD/MD at 'HFS.

VIRGIN brings 15 years of Alternative music and programming knowledge to THE EDGE. He has worked at some of the most prestigious Alternative stations in America, including EMMIS' WKQX (Q101)/CHICAGO, KPNT (105.7 THE POINT)/ST. LOUIS, and (now-defunct) INFINITY Alternative WXRK (92.3 K-ROCK)/NEW YORK.

KEDJ & KKFR PD BRUCE ST. JAMES said, "This couldn't be a better fit! TIM will be my right hand man and help me grow THE EDGE while allowing me to split my time between the two radio stations."




This is a terrific hire. Tim Virgin gets it. There's lot's of work to do with The Edge. But it looks like they have some capable people to get it done.

since he has worked at q101 and krock, this is a good thing.

1st thing on the agenda should be to bring back the all request lunch once and for all, the signature feature that made the Edge standout. It's like an Italian restaurant dropping all pasta dishes from the menu.

the music selection on the edge needs a LOT of help.

3rdly, the imaging is in really rough shape. I don't know of any other station in the country that IDs as "alternative rock." Also, that's all the imaging consists of, displaying a huge lack of creativity. Every segue is "edge 103-9 the valley's alternative rock."

They need major help, and it looks like if this guy is allowed to do his thing, help is definitely on the way.

I agree with you. I think The Edge needs to have more of a KROQ type sound in their imaging. They also need to get off the independant kick. The voice guy reflects that. Independant puts off the image of Low Budget. The Edge doesn't need to be Hollywood. But they need to sound bigger than life. Right now they don't.

However on the music I see something different. The Edge sounds better musically right now than any time I've checked them out in the past. Granted, I haven't listened to them too often. They've taken their eye off the ball quite a bit in the past. Back to the music...They're playing hits. Alternative stations across the country (including the edge) try to hard to be too cool musicwise. They end up playing a bunch of songs waaaaaaaay before they're hits. By the time they're hits the Alternatives are on to the second or third cut from the album. Not good for numbers...you gotta play the hits. The Edge is playing the hits right now. They also realize that they're in the acquiring listeners stage. So they're keeping their rotations tight. Wanna be playing a hit when a new listener samples you.

The jock situation needs to be looked at. The Edge needs to have a personality and the jocks need to reflect that. Neither has been defined. Or if it has...it needs to be adjusted.

I just want the edge to sound like they did in summer of 2004 when they were remodelingthe format if you will.Then when they were done i felt it was a well oiled machine.What the hell happenend i want to know but i digress lets hope he gets the station back to what it was and no i do not want to here the hits all the time.Deeper tracks are where its at for me!!!aka 91x in sandiego or indie 1031 in la
