New KGB PD

I'd like to report that sdradio.net reports that all-access.com reports that Shauna Moran is reportedly now the PD for Rock 105.3 and KGB.

Now of course the big news is going to be who among the KGB morning show survives this week's Clear Channel chopfest in which they have summoned GM's to Texas for a one-day session to tell them that there are no sacred cows. Who knows, maybe DS&C will be down to just DS&C.

So tell me again, what does a CC PD do, schedule vacations and weekend board ops?

1. "one web page reports that another web page reports"
2. excited to see that people may lose jobs.
3. bashing job duties.

All this in only for lines?

Crusty, I had it direct from 101.5 KGB; and then told AllAccess. Hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a good yarn.

It sure ain't Classy Bob.

So when do we find out the results of the latest job cut orders from the confab being held this week? Is Rickards going to be answering the phones himself during DSC in the mornings?

Did you loose your journalism hat after the Planet, or is it just laying around getting all yellow?

Journalism? This is a board for commenting, criticizing, praising or otherwise pontificating on that element of show business known as "radio."

There's the rub, Bob. AllAccess.com has not reported it. So your claim that I reported that AllAccess reported is false. I checked at 06:40 a.m. (Pacific) and the new KGB PD has not been posted at AllAccess.

Like I posted, "Never let the facts get in the way of a good yarn."

Thank you for your time, Bob, but your barb yesterday stuck me as I was confirming another story about a loss in the radio community. This may be a place for you to pontificate, but for me it's part of a water cooler to gather info.

As I said, the way your original accouncement was written (which is no longer on line), it appeared to me that you were citing All Access - sorry about that, but neither of us does journalism anymore, just gossip, rumors and tidbits (or twitters...).

Bob as a general rule, I agree with most of what you post. Chris he made a mistake with the Allaccess comment. Lets get back to the subject of the post....Shauna Moran the new PD of KGB-FM.

Shauna is a good lady she does for her best for the stations KGB-Fm will be fine (a whole lot better than when Jim Richards was there). Shauna appreciates the history of KGB and the people.

And Bob you are correct all that a PD does these days, is try to keep the high price morning talent quiet, schedules on-air people, voice trackers, and board ops. They don't come up with any new music, they are simply the corporate fall guys when the consultant screws up the ratings and music so bad that the station is un-listenable.

To come off of topic for a second Chris, I was wondering what your day job is? How do you make a living just commenting on San Diego Radio on your website? And what stations have you worked for? I am not trying to be critical just curious?

You think that's bad... try figuring out what a music director does these days.

I know someone above pretty much accused me of taking joy in the fact that someone might lose their jobs, but perhaps one thing Clear Channel could do right is to cutting other dayparts to the bone and beyond while continuing to allow bloated morning show staffs. Anyone know how many folks are on the payroll just for DS&C and JeffNJer?

Programming radio stations will become a lost art (and many large radio groups make it seem like it already is) as "PD's" are no longer able to actually program individual stations, yet presumably someday they will by default jump into one of those uber-PD positions that may actually require them to program a station. This becomes one of those Peter Principle cases, where "I must know what I'm doing since I have the title."

Right now we do have corporate PD's and consultants who may have actually had to make real programming decisions that were crucial for keeping a station competitive, but even before consolidation the number of people who were good at that were few and far between, and now there is no place for newcomers to learn.

Scott, your right. the PD's, especially at CC these days is nothing more than an administrative posistion. Most of the PD's are corporate molds who have very little ability to make "gut instinct" programming moves. It's sad.
