New Kicks Night Guy

I hear Kicks has hired a guy named Scotty O'Brien to do evenings. I guess Mark Richards didn't like any of the auditions from folks already at the station.

I'm told O'Brien is the third fiddle on a morning show in Nashville. I think this is the same guy who up until recently was doing weekends on Star 94, but I'm not 100% sure. I thought the guy on Star was (as they used to say in top 40) a puker, but maybe he'll sound good on Kicks.

Here's the press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCOTTY O’BRIEN JOIN KICKS AS NIGHT SHOW HOST

ATLANTA GA – KICKS announces the addition of Scotty O’Brien as the new night show host.
“We are delighted Scotty will be joining the KICKS team. his experience on the air in the morning, and in the evening gives him the tools we need to entertain at night. Following the move of Wylie Rose to afternoons we were searching for the right talent to carry on our nighttime tradition of fun, and energy and building a relationship with our nighttime audience. With Scotty at the wheel, we have the ability to KICK-start the night show and take it to a new level of entertainment. He will be special in Atlanta!.”
Wylie Rose moved to the afternoon show earlier this year, after longtime afternoon talent Cadillac Jack took on the morning show in May.
O’Brien comes to Atlanta after ten years of radio work in Nashville. He has hosted mornings at CHR WQZQ-FM, nights at HOT AC station STAR97, and nights at COUNTRY, The BIG 98, WSIX. -FM.
“I am thrilled to be part of the KICKS radio team in Atlanta, truly one of America’s greatest country music stations. I have always been a big fan of country radio, and living in Nashville, I have had the opportunity to know the music and, yes, bump into some of the stars of the format. Atlanta is the city where I have always wanted to do radio. I can’t wait to get things cranked up at night”
O’Brien joins the KICKS air staff on September 1st.

Mr. Freeman:

With your timely inside information, have you ever thought about writing a media related column for the local news paper?

Sorry Mr. Ho, just could not resist . . .

I know this guy, very nice and humble. and he doesn't puke.

Scotty O'Brien goes to Star 94 in Atlanta

I have to give Cumulus credit for not trashing out the staff
at Oldies 97.1 when the 96.3 crew came aboard. That's certainly
rare, refreshing and comforting these days. But, I heard Scotty
O'Brien on Star 94 in Atlanta (Saturday afternoon)
and he sounded better than he ever did at Star 97
here or The Party. I think he's found his
place in the sun and he IS using his entire name! Maybe it's
just better equipment, but he sure wasn't allowed
to give Nashville radio his best. I wish him well!

Scotty O has been working in Atlanta on weekends for a couple of years now. That doesn't necessarily mean he's leaving Cumulus. I'm sure you'll hear him with Coyote & Cathy on Tuesday morning.

My mistake. Didn't see him listed on the Star 94 website,
so I made the obvious leap foward. Not the first time I've
crashed, is it? Come to think of it, I think I may have caught
him on Star a while back, but just forgot. Glad he's still
around. Thanks for setting the record straight, NSSB.

I will second that. He's absolutely a very nice guy and a wonderful talent. We're lucky to have talent of his caliber coming BACK to Atlanta....FULL TIME! Well done, Scotty. Welcome back.
