New Kid on the Block checking in

This is my first post on radio-info. I just recently discovered the site, and have read some of the posts of the last few months. I was in ownership and management of WKXI FM 94.7 in Jackson from 1971 to 1979. Later I owned WDLT Lite Rock 98.3 in Mobile. I now live in the Mobile area, and though I've been out of radio since 1992, I still like to keep up with what's happening in the biz. I would like to hear from any of you that I knew along the way, especially from Jackson radio in the 70s. J Alex Bowab, Fairhope, Alabama - [email protected]

Welcome to the board! I have been following your posts in other spots for years, and appreciate the opportunity to tap your wealth of experience in so many facets of the business.

Hello Alex. We worked together when WKXI first came on the air. I'm sure you remember! I was at the station when you walked up for the first time, just out of the military. So was I. I was the MRN founder and news director.

I remember one Christmas morning not only was I the newscaster on the network, I was the DJ that morning. I knew very little about the "Urban" (Is that what it's called?) music. So I started playing lots of Motown sounds, which I was familiar with.

You or someone called and told me to play the Black music. So I tried.

I've been posting here for awhile. Currently I'm in Houston (the Texas one) closing down one small newspaper and starting another.

J Alex Bowab! Fancy meeting you here. You contributed tons of historical information for south Alabama to my website over the years, and I still greatly appreciate it all. I live in Mississippi now but keep the Alabama Broadcast Media Page alive and kicking. It's good to see you on the message boards. :)
