New Kids on The Block, why?

Why did New Kids On The Block decide to release a new CD, and the song Summertime to the top 40 rotation? I mean, it might work on an AC station, but what makes them think this generation of top 40 listeners will listen to New Kids On The Block? Did Mark Wahlberg not make enough money from his movies so he has to bring back the band to pay a second morgatge?

As much as I personally don't care for it, it is getting decent listener reaction - and has a +362 at #24 on the national chart.

You do realize that they're going to make a KILLING on tour this Summer/Fall, right? Why WOULDN'T they release an album?

They're having success at Top 40. And for the format's sake, I hope you're not actually programming a CHR station. There are already enough programmers who let their own personal biases get in the way of giving their audience what they want.

And I don't see what Mark Wahlberg has to do with it, since he was never in the group to begin with.

While we're at it, let's reunite Color Me Badd!!!

Come on, the members are a half decade from 40, not really boy band-ish. Man they looked so freaking old in their video. Either they just woke up, they're high, or the wrinkles are setting in. BTW, what a Backstreet Boy video concept ripoff! The whole white outfit coreographed dance moves on a platform, come on!

Let me know when Kris Cross has a reunion too.

I don't care for the song myself either but it's playing. 80's revivals can and do happen!

I never would have thought that New Kids On The Block would have a hit in 2008. But then again, I didn't think Kylie Minogue would have had a comeback in 2002 either.

Across the Pond, Take That has had huge success with their reunion. "Shine" was huge last year when I was visiting the UK.

We are in the usual 10 year cycle of boy bands and pop music becomming huge. Late 80s - Early 90s - New Kids ... Late 90s - Early 2000s BSB, Nsync, 98 Degrees. Now we are headed into the late 2000s to early 2010s - New Kids are back and getting decent reaction, obviously since we are talking about 'em. Who knows, a 98 Degrees reunion, BSB are still together, and their last single, Inconsolable (2007)was in my opinion pretty good. Would be great to see NSYNC back, but due to JT's success, highly unlikely. Maybe LFO will be next.

BTW, speaking of come backs, in a non boy band but equally anticipated come back (at least by me), Ace of Base set to release new material (working apparently with US producers) in 2009?

HAHAHA!!! The Lyte Funky Ones. Woo! Does anybody remember last year when they tried to put together that horrendous "Man Band" show on Vh1 with the guys from LFO, 98 degrees, NSync, and Color Me Badd?? I'm SO shocked that didn't work out ::)

I always loved LEN-Steal my shunshine....... We still play it during the noon hour.

You know...it's not supposed to be about how old the artists are...it's supposed to be about "what's in the grooves".

Pardon this old f--t for telling you this, but that's what's wrong with CHR these days. I recognize it's not 1966 anymore, but women at the top of your demo (age 34) were in middle school or high school when NKOTB hit in the 90's. So a reunion about now is about right, maybe off by a year or two, but close.

CHR is supposed to be about reaching Women 18-34...not Males 12-24, though the teens drive CHR cume after 3 pm.

But, the teens don't bring the advertisers....
