Gotta agree. I could see where they might want to freshen it up a little bit as the old one has been in use for decades, but this is no improvement. This rates a Bill Walton "What were they thinking?"
 
I just noticed it the other day too. It seems weird to ditch such a recognizable and long-standing logo, but perhaps an image re-fresh isn't the worst idea. Most likely the people who were listening to KIIS 30 years ago as a pop station aren't in their target demo any longer (or are in the upper reaches), and they'd rather start fresh with the younger generations who only see the old logo on fading 1987 Nissan Sentras.
 
CC changed their logos for their chr stations in New York and Miami and they look good not sure why they went this route?
 
God-awful looking CHR logo. Looks like something that was colored on Microsoft Word! Disgraceful to a popular long-standing logo.

What looked good in 1982......in 2012? Not so much........

But that "Kiss Ball" (I had a harder time typing those two words together in the same phrase than you might think) was just stupid.....
 
God that crap is gonna look awful on billboards around town. The orignal one stands out of all the CHR stations in the CC family. Ohh well its a logo wont affect the ratings or music.
 
Yeah that logo sucks too. The first KISQ logo was fine. They also updated KHYL in Sacramento. Now it looks like WVAZ logo in Chicago. But back to KIIS, they should have left it alone

Well...the new logo is an evolution and really not too bad.

The frequency is now grey, it was white with some dropshadows and some bevel/emboss. Quite 90's actually, and not readable when shown really small. The slanted type and color setting of the words KISS FM is like the old one, and more recognizable in an instant. The only thing that changed is the type, which is a LOT bolder.

Could use a brighter red though. This is a bit too orange for my taste.
