New KKLZ PD

From AllAccess

Charlie Logan Named KKLZ/Las Vegas PD

Charlie Logan
I look forward to working with Tom and the rest of the KKLZ staff as we position Las Vegas’ only Classic Rock station to be a dominant force in this radio market
BEASLEY Classic Rock KKLZ/LAS VEGAS has named 20-year Rock radio veteran CHARLIE LOGAN the station's PD. LOGAN, who will report directly to BEASLEY/LAS VEGAS Market Manager TOM DAVIS, spent the last six years as Sr. Dir./Rock Programming for XM SATELLITE RADIO.

Stated DAVIS, "CHARLIE brings us a solid track record of accomplishments in rock music programming. On behalf of the entire staff, we are delighted to welcome him to 96.3 Classic Rock. With over twenty years of experience, we are ready to put his knowledge and talent to work as we bring LAS VEGAS classic rock music fans sounds from the genre’s biggest bands and artists."

Said LOGAN, "KKLZ-FM has a wealth of talent under the leadership of Market Manager TOM DAVIS. Coming to LAS VEGAS to program 96.3 Classic Rock is a terrific career opportunity and I look forward to working with TOM and the rest of the KKLZ staff as we position LAS VEGAS’ only Classic Rock station to be a dominant force in this radio market."

The press release says KKLZ is "Las Vegas' only classic rock station". I wonder if that's directed towards the POINT who calls themselves "#1 for Classic Rock".

I remember reading about Charlie Logan in the 1980s when he programmed the old WYNF/Tampa. He is certainly a rock radio veteran, underperforming KKLZ could end up being the biggest challenge in his long career.

For the sake of discussion, what kind of changes
should Charlie make to get KKLZ out of last place?

I have a good idea to take them out of last place go to oldies

That is a very good idea. But the fact that they hired a PD with an extensive rock background means it's not going to happen.

Charlie is awesome! Listened to him way back in the 95YNF days as well. I wish him the best as KKLZ is in one hell of a hole. Speaking of the old days, he's actually got a web page with some classic shots and sounds... (although it doesn't look like it's been updated in quite some time)
