New Kylie/Robyn Tunes!

Why on earth is Seattle's C89 (where I live) still the only station in the country spinning mainstream artists like Kylie's "All The Lovers", and Robyn's "Dancing On My Own" in regular rotation? I think these two tracks are the hits of the summer, and no one is giving these tunes any airtime. My god, just when I think the US is finally watching football (soccer) and embracing music from Europe, I get the rude awakening that it's just not happening.

Thoughts?

Because.... because!!! Don't you see? It's not rap, and according to someone in New York, dance is over. Rap is the new generation sound for 2011! Kylie and Robyn are way too mature.

KDM, you can't give up, even if something fails many times!

Wednesday morning, the US soccer team tried to score a goal 6 times, and failed. The game went to the last minute, and finally Donavan kicked that miracle goal in the final minute to win the game for the US. Should the US have given up on this World Cup after failing to score a goal in 90 minutes?

And isn't it funny that the two radio stations playing the Robyn tune are a high school (c89) and a college station. Goes to show you the power of corporate radio and their strict/uncreative playlists. And its also funny how C89 was playing Gaga and La Roux a year before corporate radio got wind of the (what they thought) new music talent. And it seems the same thing is happening now to the Agnes tune "Release Me".

I guess I just don't get why with acts like David Guetta, GaGa, Black Eyed Peas, etc. on the pop scene and on radio in the states, why the Kylie and Robyn (these two artists are just examples of many) tunes aren't on the top of a PD's list to add to their station playlist as soon as it lands on his/her desk. Just sayin..... :)

;D

But I think we need to start moving and sharing these thoughts to other areas of this board as well. Staying mostly confined to the dance area only limits the knowledge and thoughts that we already know from being exposed to new people. This will be my next topic... I've been thinking about for a while now, by the way... that I will introduce (unless of course someone else beats me to it!) :) Lets wake everyone else up. As of right now, outsiders are still thinking everything is exactly how it was and will forever be that way in the industry. In other words, dance is evil and no one has proven otherwise. Now, we see the changes taking place with the new electronic trend, and this is the time for EVERYONE to get to the CHR and other dance-friendly or dance-possible sections and show people what is going on TODAY. Ok, I'm cutting off right now in a bad spot and leaving this incomplete, but will introduce it fully as a new topic when I feel like it.

I do admit I may have went a little overboard with my reply posts to the guy on the New York board, but I think it's preposterous to say that just because something failed, then it should never be tried ever again, ESPECIALLY when you don't even know exactly WHY it failed in the first place.

I may have gone overboard bringing the advancements of technology and electricity, NASA, Timbaland and Aaliyah, and BP...etc into it, but I figured if he was going to go overboard and use Jersey Shore as an example and talk about Dance music on NPR, then I could also go overboard myself to explain why saying "it failed" is not a good enough excuse to trash anyone who even just brings up the words "dance music". Not to mention, we're headed in a new direction in sound, yet people see and hear waht's going on and STILL cannot abandon their old ways of thinking. No one even said anything about making any station in New York dance.

I guess even when you explain in full precise detail, people still will misunderstand - if they choose to.... It CLEARLY SAID: 'I AM NOT LOOKING FOR 92.3 NOW TO DO A DANCE MUSIC FORMAT! I'll repeat....I AM NOT LOOKING FOR 92.3 NOW TO DO A DANCE MUSIC FORMAT!' yet someone still misunderstood Tony's post.
