New Line Up for 810 KGO - Mostly Local

Three new people are being added to the weekday schedule. They've all been at KGO, either for weekends or in the past. I put an * next to the names of the three new shows.

5-10 a.m. -- Armstrong & Getty (syndicated from KSTE Sacramento)
10-Noon -- Mark Thompson*
Noon-3 p.m. -- Pat Thurston*
3-6 p.m. -- Chip Franklin
6-9 p.m. -- John Rothman*
9 p.m.-12 a.m. -- John Batchelor (syndicated from WABC New York)
12-5 a.m. -- Coast to Coast AM with George Noory (syndicated from Premiere Networks)

So it's all local from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. And if you considered Noory is now based in California, and Armstrong & Getty in Sacramento, it's nearly all Californian.

Any PD astute enough to put John Rothman on 5 nights a week knows what he is doing. Moreover, having John Rothman's erudite program air when the massive KGO 810 signal canvases the entire West Coast is a treat for listeners well beyond the local DMA who are looking for intelligent programming vs. the insidious Coast to Coast AM or Red Eye (truckers) Radio available too broadly in syndication in nearly every market.

Mark Thompson

That is interesting that after 3 decades in Los Angeles for being the VO of Fox Primetime specials and the weather talent for Fox 11 is returning to the Bay Area as a Talk host.

Thompson is a 30-year radio industry veteran having worked at KABC (790) and KFI Los Angeles and previously at KGO. He is also a TV weatherman, working in Denver, Los Angeles, New York and for eight years at KRON-TV San Francisco.

“It’s nothing short of a thrill to be back on the air in the Bay Area and on a legendary station that was my daily companion for so long,” said Thompson. “It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to with the KGO 810 audience, which I believe is one of the smartest audiences in all of broadcasting.”

But Welcome back to San Francisco for Thompson. When was Mark Thompson on KGO-AM though and what years specifically?

His previous Bay Area gig was as the weatherman for KRON, channel 4, 80s-'90s. He was quite popular, thanks to an offbeat humorous approach that was actually funny, not like the shopworn Lloyd Lindsay Young.
