New Log 12/21/2011

Got a new log on AM, finally after about two weeks!

1230: KSBN Spokane, WA; fair in the graveyard slop at 2200 PST with TOH ID "Moneytalk 1230 KSBN Spokane". Into IRN/USA News at 2200. New #427, 1kw, 222 miles. Also heard an UNID with Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" under KSBN, likely KOZI. With this log, I have only one station in Spokane (KEYF 1050) left to clean out this radio market.

Great stuff, Crain, getting the chase down to just one station to go.

Even back when the dials were less crowded, there always would be that one holdout from a state, or a region. The pestiest one for me now is WGMF Tunkhannock PA on 1460, west of Scranton. They run Oldies, as part of (iIrc) a five-station network. The closer WNAK 730 is one of the 'Gem 104' simulcasts. Perhaps one day I'll make a real effort at trying to // the audio. I'm pretty much co-linear between Tunkhannock and the ever-present Harrisburg sports 1460 The Ticket, though.

Obstacle(s) to receiving KEYF? The map says they're omni, and that they play music. That 2011 rogramming oddity should help in distinguishing audio. It'd be great to see a post here from you soon about your clean sweep. And I'd enjoy hearing the audio when you nab them!

KEYF is a rough one to get because of KBLE, KTCT, and the fact they're so low power at night. I only got them once on this side of the Cascades (Everett), So it IS possible.......

I've heard the following on 1050 in my DXing career in Bothell/Bellevue: KBLE, KTCT, CJNB, KORE. I have gotten a tentative KEYF at sunset, but have not confirmed the ID, and at night it's 260w. 1050 is mostly blocked here by KBLE, but I can get around it only to the South, so that really dosen't help with KEYF.

Always enjoy your radio adventures! You might try 1050 maybe 2 or 3 hours before sunset. I have stations pop in and out from PA OH GA...300 miles or more. They may be there for a while then gone. Sometimes I get an ID. Some kind of winter skywave.
