New Log from TX, 10/17/18 + DX tip on 550khz

With KKOL silent, 1300 has been wide open lately. Snagged another new one tonight.

1300 - KVET TX, Austin; popped out of nowhere at 2300 PT 10/17 with ID '1300 the Zone...an iHeartRadio station,' into Fox Sports Trending. Mixing with presumed KLER Orofino and someone else that sounded like SS (XEP?) NEW #760, 1000 watts at 1,664 miles!! I'm very impressed with this! 1300 is a regional channel with lots of stations in the way.

Also a DX tip for 550. KRAI Craig CO is on full day power, 5000 watts with '55 Country KRAI' IDs and country music. Nice low-band target for anyone who needs it! 560 KMON Great Falls is also very strong, potentially day pattern. Rebelde 710, Progreso 640 fair as well, so conditions are good on the band.

Good job!

Goes for me as well.

Regarding KMON.....

They're not all that unusual in the upper Midwest. Even with three "800-pound gorillas" on 560....WIND, WEBC, and even KWTO. i've never heard KMON here at home in the Chicago area, but I have heard them in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin on a few occasions. Also when I'm in Winnipeg, they're fairly regular at sunrise after WIND and/or WEBC fade.

I remember reading a guy's comment, here or elsewhere, that KMON refurbished or tuned up their transmitter a couple years ago. Maybe that's why they get out so well.

I checked my overall AM log and KVET should be *761* in the AM log. I forgot to put in the Issaquah TIS on 1700 that I heard from my old flats in Bellevue and Bothell. Thanks to cyberdad for this week's 'am frequency' thread...
