NEW log yesterday 12/16/19 - first new one in weeks

Never got around to posting this. Darn it.

1520 - KMPG CA, Hollister; with several Spanish commercials, one mentioning 408 area code, and a Goodwill PSA; followed by a Bonita ID into Regional Mexican music, at 1621 PT 12/16. Over/under KQRR. NEW #787, 5KW at 703 miles. This is my first new AM station logged in weeks, since the 10/14 logging of KBRT 740. KMPG is a daytimer.
Hoping for more Christmas presents under the skywave tree!

That 4-5 p.m. local window is really good here too. The other day I was in the car shortly before 4 and heard oldies on 670 -- unusual because until Chicago shows up there after sunset usually nothing can be heard beneath the WFAN splatter. It was WLUI from Pennsylvania with a really strong signal.

I assume their FM 92.9 frequency is on 24/7 since the AM is shut off at night because of Chicago. Correct?

No idea, since I'm not in the area. But WJIB Cambridge, Mass., is a daytimer, too, and I'm pretty sure its FM translator runs 24/7 -- it's at 740 and needs to protect Toronto -- so there must be some sort of exemption carved out in the FCC's translator rules to allow non-simulcast operation under such circumstances. I'm sure one of our broadcasting experts will jump in here at some point with all there is to know on this.

A few things...

A translator is allowed to stay on overnight if its attached to a daytimer that signs off at sunset, in fact thats why most AM stations have them.

As for KMPG being a daytimer.. thats, oh.. just a suggestion on their license.

Ask me how I know?:)
