New Logging (ON A GRAVEYARD FREQUENCY OVER THE MESS!!) 12/26/2009

Here goes...

1450 AM: CHOR Summerland, BC: Poor-fair reception, being a graveyard but heard "...1450 AM Summerland, an Astral Media radio station...". Not bad for 1 kw and a hundred stations behind you!

Distance-170 miles

Best I've done on 1450 is CHUC from Coburg, ON. That's about 600 miles for me, but it almost doesn't count as a graveyard because it's either 5 or 10kw (I forget which). It IS, however, directional. I've actually gotten this one three or four times.

How long were they atop 1450, Crain? Just for that announcement? Or maybe with detectable music before and after?
And was some it it water-path enhanced?

We were about a mile north of the Atlantic in south Queens NY, so even the GYs -- maybe especially the GYs -- had that water-path enhancement. In fact, I just before was looking at the Radio-Locator for Manahawkin NJ and found a real irony. Long Island's top-rated station, WALK-FM 97.5, has 50,000 watts and isn't listed as a present station in Manahawkin. But WALK -AM and their 500 watt signal *is*.

Nice catch!

It was just over the noise for the announcement. I checked later about 6PM, mess with top of the hour news, which would have been who knows what.
