NBC 30 has a new logo.

First WCTX rebrands as UPN 9 and now NBC 30 gets a new logo. What is this? The week of changes in Hartford/New Haven?

That's OK. It's the "UPN 9" crap that WCTX-TV is pulling which I hate.

I don't care for WCTX's rebranding as UPN 9 either and I think they should be UPN 59. I've always referred to WCTX as UPN 59 on these boards anyway. I also assume since you don't like WCTX calling themselves UPN 9 as in their cable postion you don't like WSHM-LP in Springfield calling themselves CBS 3. I think they should be CBS 67.

I also didn't like when FOX 61 took over what was then UPN 20 WTXX and rebranded it as CT 20. (Connecticut's 20)

Simple answer Jay.

It's the start of the New TV season...

I love when people with NO background in TV marketing start saying what the TV stations should do.

Why don't you apply to work as the head of station marketing and promotions there JAY?

WCTX-59 is branding itself "UPN-9" based on the cable channel number it's on in many communities in the area.

A number of UHF stations, if they are on the same "VHF" channel position on most cable systems in their market, are now branding themselves with that cable channel position.

In San Diego, I believe NBC's O&O KNSD-39 uses both it's broadcast (channel 39) and cable channel positions (cable channel 7) in it's branding, as "NBC-7/39".

BTW, according to their website, WTIC-61 is on cable channel 6 in most of the Hartford area. Were WTIC to embrace the "Brand As A VHF Channel" theory that WCTX has, "Fox 61" would become "Fox 6".

However, you may see WVIT-30 continue to call themselves "NBC-30" even though they are on cable channel 4 in much of the market. In some parts of Southern Connecticut, both it and NBC flagship WNBC-4 are available either over-the-air and/or via cable. Changing WVIT's branding to "NBC-4" would confuse it with WNBC, which is also branded "NBC-4".

You can't compare that to WCTX however because of WVIT's rich history.
WVIT is one of the OLDEST tv stations in Connecticut. (In fact, I believe
it is #2 behind WTNH ex. WNHC-TV). So people grew up watching channel "30".
They know channel 30, no matter what cable system it is on.
(Or what call sign they had...)
(Same thing goes with other established UHF stations in markets, like WSBK, or WWLP, or WGGB)

WCTX is not that old. Starting as WTVU, going to WBNE then to this WCTX.
It's no where near as popular. So the new branding just might work out.
