New Logos on Hartford Stations

Well the WFSB "3" logo hasn't changed, but they did update their graphics package and tweaked the music a bit - which is refreshing. However, I'd prefer them call themselves CBS3 instead of Springfield channel 67 going by that title.

The thing that I don't understand is why FOX61 would even bother to change their logo. They've turned into such a low budget station over the years, especially in terms of news talent. What the heck is going on over there? They had better news personalities in the 90s (Pat Sheehan and Beth Carroll come to mind). But back to the new logo, it's similar to what most FOX stations were using a decade ago. If you look at the WNYW logo from 1996, it's basically the same style was what WTIC is using now, about 10 years later. It's especially low budget looking when you take into consideration the cool new logos being used by FOX O&O stations.

WTIC-TV is a charter FOX affiliate and is probably one of the top 5 FOX stations in the country in terms of average share. I saw the modified "FOX 61" logo in a New Britain Rock Cats baseball program as far back as Memorial Day. As for "CBS 3", don't count on Merideth doing something like that again. The one who made a mistake with their logo was WCTX-TV channel 59 of New Haven. They couldn't come up with their own "MyTV" logo, so they had to steal (so to speak!) the logo from WWOR channel 9 in New York City! [By the way, I REFUSE to call them channel 9.]

OK. I stand corrected. However, there's gotta be a reason why Tribune never changed the station from FOX to then-WB (now CW).

Tribune and LIN Broadcasting switched the network affiliations of channels 20 and 59 on January 1, 2001. Channel 59 officially became WCTX-TV at that time. WTXX-TV started using the "WB 20" bug at least a week before that, as I remember a U-Conn Huskies basketball game just after Christmas 2001 and before New Year's 2002 with that bug.

Has anyone noticed something familiar about WFSB's updated music?

I was watching the news at Noon today, and had an instant flashback to the past. I think the new music resembles a modern version of what they had in the late 80s, and early/mid 90s.

This is the era of Gail King, Don Lark, Janet Peckinpaugh, Gerri Brooks, and Denise D'Ascenzo (still there). Does anyone remember that gigantic (was it an 8-person?) newsdesk they had, or the nearby set that resembled a living room? This is also the era of Charlie Bagley and Hilton Kaderli, and when WFSB focused much of their news on Western Massachussetts.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone recognized the new music as being familiar. I wish I was more technically advanced enough to create some kind of audio comparison for everyone.

I think the music package WFSB had in the late 80s/early 90s was called Advantage. I remember WHDH in Boston used it for awhile. But I hope they don't change their logo. Because I think the one they have now has been pretty much the same forever.

Channel 3 debuted their current "Circle 3" logo at the 1993 Hartford Flower Show, if I'm not mistaken.
