New LPFM on 95.7-WVQC

Wow.. What a waste of time (and frequency)!! My old Walkie Talkies had better range than that !!

So much for WHIO ???

If you look up WHIO-FM on radio-locator, you might want to notice that the request for a construction permit for Sharonville has been taken down...

Never ever saw it on Radio-Locator.  ???
To my knowledge a CP (construction permit) for WHIO-FM in Sharonville was never issued.
Still listed on the FCC website as an APP (application) from way back in January '07.
Personally, I don't feel good that this will ever happen - would be nice to get some closure (go or no-go) regarding plans from Cox and the original application.
Note: Now that they are hemorraging money - like most radio corporations - can't see them shelling out bucks for a new station in this economy anyway.
Thoughts? Anyone?

Aww, poor widdle WHIO.

WHIO was better staying where they are. Great signal (10,000 times stronger than WVQC). I don't think many people around here will hear WVQC over top of WHIO. I know I won't be able to.

I covered this once before. WHIO filed a petition for reconsideration against the various 95.7 CPs that have been granted around town. Must not have been very effective...yet.

Was the petition by WHIO-FM filed recently (last 3 - 6 months)?
If so, does this mean there is still a slight chance the original application (move to Sharonville) is still viable and/or in the works?
Inquiring minds still want to know.
Hmmm....

This one was truly a surprise. The FCC could have just deleted the LPFM applications and granted the Cox move.
But instead they granted the low power applications.

This means Cox must find new channels for the LPFMs to get their gant. The FCC will let LPFMs on 2nd or 3rd adjacent
channels as they have done in Dayton.

But, I think Cox might be better off with a Class B where it is now. And, West Central Ohio will be better off.

Time is running out for the four LPFMs in Cincinnati. Their CPs are good until August 8, 2009. WVQC claims it will be on the air this Fall but they haven't
requested an extension of their CP from the FCC. This is what WVQC has to say about their on air date: http://www.wvqc.org/listen

Any updates?? Any interest?

The FCC cut these LPFM applications a big break by granting them CPs. A lot
is up in the air here. If one of these low power FM's gets on the air and
licensed, the FCC will throw out the WHIO move.

But, if these LPFMs fail to construct on time, expect the Commission to
allow the WHIO move in. Guess we'll know which way this goes very soon.

I can't imagine there is any interest in WVQC. Well... maybe the kid with the OTHER Walkie-Talkie cares!!

Why even bother trying to start a new station with that kind of power?!?!

I believe it was posted here months ago that Cox announced to the staff that they've dropped these plans. No move coming for 95.7. And check out the ratings for WHIO AM & FM, they're stellar the way they are right now. Money talks, B.S. walks, apologies to AC/DC.

WVQC-LP says they are tolling until next November ???. Then they will apply for an extension of their C.P this November. Is this some special privilege the FCC is granting Low Power FM these days. Is there a 90 day grace period to apply for an extension of a C.P.? According to the FCC website, the WVQC-LP C.P. expired on
August 8, 2009.

They have changed the rules which now allow the previous 18 months limit for LPFM CP's to be increased to a total of 3 years. I'm sure the FCC will grant the additional 18 months.

My guess, unless they are not very smart, is that they have filed some sort of letter that is not showing up on their account, requesting an additional 18 month extension.

If they have not made any kind of filing, their CP is gone and the FCC is not likely to listen to their pleading if they waited too long. The FCC does not have much of any tolerance for "tardiness" when it comes to CP's.

Of course, it could be that the FCC automatically added 18 months to any LPFM CP once that rule was changed. Not sure. I've not come across this sort of thing yet.

That station could be built for $5,000. I don't understand them waiting until they raised $100,000. Crazy. It should have been built and put on the air by now.

I'm the writer of the blog the OP cited, and am glad to see that I had some web traffic come from here at R-I.

It took me a few minutes, however I found the CP in the database. It's still there. One must assume they've got another 15 months to build.

One cannot build out a permit, however, if you don't have the FM transmitter. Which last I heard, they needed one... FM transmitters aren't cheap. Not to mention, Media Bridges itself is a 501(C)(3) organization...which means they rely on community support.
